3OutOf3 Anti-Corruption Campaign Gains Steam

Potosí, Santander -- A politican interest group called the 3OutOf3 Anti-Corruption Campaign has put forward a bill for the Federal Constituent Assembly to fight corruption in fedral and local politics.

The bill is called the "3OutOf3 Law". Named as such because it asks candidates to public office to disclose three pieces of personal information: personal assets, possible conflicts of interest, and taxes. The law would require politicians to make these disclosures as a legal requirement for a legal and viable candidacy (ballot access). The bill also invests and develops technology and processes to ensure the veracity of the declarations. The law also sets a code of conduct for public officials and defines 10 types of corruption that would earn them punishments, like being forced to step down or getting barred from ever holding public office again.

The law’s drafters decided that, rather than trying to get a political party to back the law, they would turn to the country’s citizens. The drafters have turned to the internet and to a grassroots campaign to sign up endorsements of the law. In a matter of weeks, hundreds of thousands of signatures, validated with email and postal addresses, were gathered in support of the law. Pulling this off required social media outreach to get people to download and fill out the form, submit their signatures, and share the news that they’d signed #IveSigned3OutOf3. The hashtag took a life of its own as celebrities began to back the bill publicly, like actor Felipe Luna and Celine Trier. To date, roughly 634,000 signatures have been gathered.

Progressive Conservative Union Founded

The group is now the third largest political grouping in the Federal Constituent Assembly.
