Sanastani is code-switching in the use of Sanaman and Istvanistani. The word is a portmanteau of the words Sanaman and Istvanistani. Sanastani is widely used in Sanama and Talenore, mostly in urban areas and among younger people. There is a continuum between pure Sanaman on one end and heavy Sanastani on the other, and what degree of mix is used depends on the situation, theme and audience. Sanastani speech especially consists of sentences that follow Sanaman grammar with Sanaman syntax and morphology, but that use Istvanistani nouns and verbs in place of their Sanaman counterparts. The phenomenon was previously called Sanistani in relation to the Sani language, and Amastani in relation to the Ama language.
