The Sanama Ministry of the Environment is the Council of State department responsible for environment and agriculture policy. It forms a part of the Council of State and is headed by the Secretary for Agriculture, reporting to the Chancellor. The department in its current form was created in 1679, but it traces its origin to the Federal Department of Commerce, Trade and Agriculture and Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications established in 1673. The Secretary for Agriculture directs the operations of the department, assisted by the Secretary for the Environment and a civil service support staff.
