History

Originally established in 14.19 PSSC by the Grand Principality of Beaugium, the city of Alphaville prospered for over ten eras before falling into ruin in 25.97. After years of negligence, the city was reclaimed by the Realm of Passio-Corum, in 32.16. Under Bassarid control, Alphaville came to serve as the Eastern Corridor to the Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union. It would also come to serve as the home of the New Zimian Space Exploration Exporaton and Settlement Agency, one of the leading scientific research organizations in the world.

In the 41.60s PSSC, the Real of Alphaville was traded by the Bassarids to the Ralgon in exchange for territories in Cibola which would later be classified as the Bassarid Penal Colony of Drag'os. The decision to trade Alphaville for a new penal colony would significantly inflame existing tensions in the Bassarids, stemming from an earlier decision to exchange the Stars Archipelago for the Saint Andre Islands. The decision to cede Alphaville to Ralgon would, to this end, result in serious political consequences in the Bassarids. The island would, nevertheless, come in the 41.60s PSSC, under the jurisdiction of the government Ralgon.

To appease the near-inevitable tensions that would arise from the annexation of the territory, the government at Adrestia chose to lend unprecedented freedoms to the city proper as a Special Autonomous Region, similar to how Glacier City was before the Ralgon Civil War. Additionally, Bassarid citizens were allowed unrestricted access to the city and port of Alphavandie, home rule in the city, and equal access to real estate in the countryside for residents living outside of the city's environs. As the government of Adrestia was, itself, now considered a sovereign part of Ralgon rather than just a province, the residents of the territory would, at the very least, no longer worry themselves about an out-of-touch government located many thousands of kilometers away.

Additionally, as a concession attached to the territory's purchase and subsequent annexation, the Bassarids were allowed to retain both the facilities and ownership of the New Zimian Space Exploration Program, in an effort by the Adrestians to have access to facilities that would allow them to build a space program of their own in a rivalry of sorts to Ralgon's own efforts. Additionally, the port facilities under sovereign Bassarid government ownership would remain under such, until any point when they, too, may be sold separately to the Adrestian government if their strategic importance should ever wane. Such a move, while undesirable to the commoners on both sides of the agreement, nonetheless helped spawn an era of direct cooperation between the Bassarid and Adrestian governments, without faraway Ralgon acting as a third party.
