Ransenari Security Service

The Ransenari Security Service (RSS) is the national intelligence agency of Ransenar. It the main entity of the Ransenari intelligence community, with the military intelligence elements of the Ransenari military, the Office for Internal Security, and the Office for Coast and Riverine Intelligence being transferred into the organisation after the accession of Ransenar to the Benacian Union in 1711 AN.

The RSS is responsible for intelligence collection, covert operations, and counterterrorism. It is policy for the organization to be separate from Ransenar's democratic institutions. Due to its lack of statutory foundations (no laws specify its structure and purpose), its objectives, roles, missions, powers, or budget are largely considered outside of the normal budget and governmental processes. The Ransenari Congress does have a secret Intelligence Committee that provides very close oversight and has a full view of the operations of the organization, but these processes are highly classified and contained.

The RSS is led by a Director, who is appointed by and answerable to the Minister of Security and the Realm Commission for Public Instruction and Safety within the Civil Executive. Its annual budget is estimated to be around R€10.5 billion. it is estimated the agency employs around 43,000 people directly, compared to 5,000 prior to accession.

The operations of the agency remain under a veil of secrecy, but the vastly expanded organisation is reputed to have cooperated closely with the Commission for the Panopticon and the Magisters-Carnifex in quelling any incipient attempt by disaffected parties to organise resistance to the process of integration between democratic Ransenar and the wider Benacian Union.
