The county of Ran is one of the counties of Ransenar, situated in the heart of the Kingdom. The county of Ran has a long history, comprising the territorial core of the old Shirerithian state of Goldshire. The county was one of the original territories of the first proper Goldshirian state established by Treesian merchants. After successive territorial changes by the Dukes and Kings of Goldshire, it was re-established by the decree of Queen Noor in 1635 AN. Ran is the most populated country of Ransenar, containing the ancient Goldshirian capital and its largest city, Goldshire Hamlet. Known for its war-ravaged past, the county now finds itself quickly growing in population, thus bringing greater rates of urbanization specifically around the cities of Goldshire Hamlet, Teldrin, Tyrelwynn, among other urban centers. Beyond its growing urban centers, Ran is largely rural, containing a large amount of industrial-scale, commodity agriculture, as well as a growing organic farming sector.
Since the independence of the Kingdom of Ransenar, Ran's agricultural economy has begun to make a transition to a more diversified economy that includes and favors advanced manufacturing, shipbuilding, processing, construction, financial services, information technology, biotechnology, and green energy production.
