Voiceover, male: Good evening, you are watching... NBC NEWS. https://youtu.be/o02TC4f7iXk

Vanessa Deveraux: Good evening, New Alexandria. I am Vanessa Deveraux.

Ignacio Perez: And I am Ignacio Perez. Welcome to our broadcast this evening of NBC News.

Vanessa Deveraux: Tonight, our country is finishing up its first general election, a historic moment for our nascent Federation. The election has been fought tooth and nail by four main political parties.

Ignacio Perez: The exit polls from the Institute of Public Opinion reveal that the vote is projected to be quite a victory for the Federal Humanist Party, however, they will be just short of achieving a majority on their own next Cortes.

Vanessa Deveraux: Absolutely, we're all watching this race right now, the exit polls seem to have given us an indication of where the night will go, but - anything is possible, and voters are making their voices heard this election, certainly.

So, let's go over to John Marne, the headline for the night is one, we are seeing turnout here that we very rarely see. John Marne is down in Parap, John, what can you tell us about the developing story today about the turnout in this election?

John Marne: Thank you, Vanessa. The lines for the polls down here in Parap are long - some precincts down here have run out of ballots and have begun tapping into their backup supplies of regular and provisional ballots. It's incredible.

We're also getting the same reports across the country, especially in many rural areas, where it seems many voters have come out to make their voices heard.

Vanessa Deveraux: John, earlier this year the Government had concerns that their census workers and their voter registration drive done with the other parties would fall flat. There were reports of even resistance in some of these rural areas when census and poll workers would go register people to vote. What's the mood now?

John Marne: Vanessa, I've heard from several election workers and administrators that they can estimate that turnout nationwide may break past 70%.

Whatever reports of resistance to get people registered to vote before may have been another matter entirely - but we're seeing a lot of people voting... everywhere!

Vanessa Deveraux: There we have it, looks like we are on track to get record turnout this election. One last thing, John, with the turnout reports coming out of rural areas, how do you think this may impact the vote?

John Marne: I haven't confirmed any information that can give me for certain any indication here, but it looks like in many places rural voters tend to be more centrist or perhaps even more right-wing than initially thought. We will have to see how the night will unfold.

Ignacio Perez: Thank you John - John Marne, live in Parap tonight. Thank you, John.

John Marne: Thank you, Ignacio and Vanessa.

Vanessa Deveraux: It is now our honor to introduce our election night panel of experts and pundits who will help us make sense out of this historic election.

Ignacio Perez: Joining us this evening we have a panel of experts and commentators that will help us make sense of the trends and the events happening tonight.

  1. Dr. Steven Hiller, professor of political science and economics at the University of Parap (think of him as NA's Larry Sabato);
  2. Frank Charlton, former Mayor of Fort Laons, Alduria and an independent;
  3. Louise Vinton, well-known campaign manager and advisor to campaigns for many different parties, known as basically a hired gun that will work with any party as long as the cash is good;
  4. Ricardo Varela-Chanchi, a well-known political scientist and economist lecturer and professor from the University of Punta Santiago.
  5. Karen Lopategui, a well-known super conservative firebrand commentator that lost her conservative media radio empire because she endorsed Seydlitz in his re-election back when Alduria was independent (before the Federation).

Edgard (Admin):(Pretend that the descriptions were not said by the anchor. That was me trying to give you an image of what these people are like. LOL.)

(Imagine putting someone on blast on TV like this omg)

Vanessa Deveraux: Dr. Hiller, we'll start with you tonight - based on the exit polls and the trends on the ground, what do you think folks watching at home tonight can expect?

Dr. Steven Hiller: Good evening, Vanessa. Well, I think based on what I have seen on the ground and the reports I am getting from various local election information feeds, it seems like I can confirm what John mentioned earlier - I have confirmed with government employees that the turnout of this election will reach 74%.

DR. HILLER: This is why we are starting to see many polling places, especially in cities, need to tap into their ballot reserves to be able to make sure every voters gets their say. We haven't received any other further reports on this other than - a lot of people are voting, and it's making everyone happy. DR. HILLER: As for what folks can expect, I think that we may be in for some surprises tonight. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 Thanks, Dr. Hiller. We'll check in with the rest of the panel after this commercial break. Stay tuned, we'll be back with more election night coverage. NBC News BOT 02/28/2021

Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Welcome back to tonight's election night coverage at NBC News, where we are joined by our panel of experts and commentators that will help put into context the numbers and information tonight. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 Polls are now closing in North Lyrica, South Lyrica, and in some of the last remaining places of the Federation to vote. In just a few moments, we will take you to Valencia - the first Region to report its returns tonight. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Louise, you were born in Valencia and after Alexandria fell, your family moved to Natopia. As a Valencian coming back home tonight, what insight or information can you provide us about what we can expect tonight out of Valencia? NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 VINTON: (Basically, think of this lady as Kathryn Hahn in Parks and Recs) It's good to be here tonight, and it's great to see democracy in action. Valencia was part of the Alexandrian heartland in Keltia, and it was also the bedrock of the Socialist Party election after election. It was here where Alexandrian labor and the Socialist Party intertwined - now the Region was much bigger and populated then than it is now. As we have to content with most of the old Valencian lands being polluted by the presence of the Bassarid Empire. VINTON: But what I think we're going to see tonight is a battle between Cambio Democratico and the Progressive Federalists for these voters. VINTON: Valencia is a mostly left-wing Region, but the Federal Humanists did bring forward compelling arguments, especially the investments in defense. As I mentioned earlier, Valencia is particularly vulnerable to the Bassarid Empire, a particularly tetchy neighbor. VINTON: Valencia will be interesting to see tonight, to say the least. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Thank you, Louise. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 holds finger to her earpiece Looks like we are set to get the early reports coming out Valencia now... one moment. Let's go ahead and switch to our Valencian affiliate, where we will be taken live to Chambery, where Regional Election Headquarters are tallying the votes. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 We have Larry Johnson in Chambery tonight - Larry, good evening. NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 JOHNSON: Bon soir, Ignacio and Vanessa, yes - I am live at the Regional Count here in Chambery, Valencia. This is where every town, every city, every village sends and transmits their local results to be tabulated, verified, and complied into the final regional results. JOHNSON: The feeling here tonight has been of frenzy, with election staff running to and fro in a frenzy of activity as the results come pouring in. It looks like the election count officials are getting ready to certify the results here, one moment please. CHYRON: Results to be released in Valencia, Federal Capital District... JOHNSON: We can now see Dr. Evelyn Friebourg, a statistician that serves as Valencia's head elections administrator, stepping up to the stage. DR. EMILY FRIEBOURG: For the Region of Valencia, I, Emily Friebourg, by the powers vested in me by the government of the Region of Valencia do hereby certify and confirm the following election results to be true, final, and complete.

JOHNSON: The results have been confirmed, everyone. The left vote looks to have split in this Region between Cambio Democratico and the Progressive Federalist Party, allowing the FHP to eke a small victory here in Valencia tonight. JOHNSON: Valencia is a Region where the Progressive Federalists should have performed closer to past levels here, but Cambio Democratico has surged regionally. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 Thank you, Larry - Larry, this is certainly tough news for the Progressive Federalists. This was a Region they expected to win due to its historic connections with the strong labor and socialist movements of Alexandria. What do you think happened here? NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 JOHNSON: Based on the precinct and local numbers, the Federal Humanist Party benefited immensely from gains in rural areas and from voters deeply concerned about defense and crime. This was also an advantage to them in the cities, but in Valencia, the cities are small, densely populated bastions of the left. That was where Cambio Democratico was able to blaze a trail. JOHNSON: The Progressive Federalists and Cambio Democratico also neglected to campaign here, which likely could have improved their chances and pushed the FHP down in the polls. But, again, these two parties are competing for the same urban core of voters. The old paradigms of what worked when this area was Alexandria just might not be good assumptions to have anymore. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Thanks, Larry - sorry to cut you off but the count is starting in the city of Cardenas - one moment please. We are going to Lucy Rodriguez in the Federal Capital District. Lucy - go ahead. NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 RODRIGUEZ: Gracias, Ignacio. I'm here in the press conference room of the local Election Administration Office. The local elections officer is set to come out any minute now. As the local election officials accommodate in front of the room, the camera cuts out to show a wider shot of the room, full of cameras, journalists, bloggers, and other officials. MAN AT PODIUM: Good evening. For the Federal Capital District, I, Jerry Gergich, by the powers vested in me by the government of the Federal Capital District do hereby certify and confirm the following election results to be true, final, and complete.

RODRIGUEZ: The Federal Capital District's results have come in - the city's two seats shall be given to the Progressive Federalists and the Federal Humanist Party. This is a city that is currently full of government employees - and these government employees are mostly appointed from the current Federalist caretaker government. These folks are tried and true Federalists and will pull the lever for their party... but this is where they split, left and right Federalists. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Thank you, Lucy. NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 CHYRON: RESULTS INCOMING FROM SANTANDER... Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 For those who are just tuning in, Valencia and the Federal Capital District have released their election results, we are now anticipating the release of more Regions as the count goes into the night tonight. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Next up, we are getting reports from Santander - where the local elections officials have asked the incomparable Baroness LaBelle to present the Region's electoral results. Baroness Patti LaBelle has served for many years in the boards of charities across the Federation, known in particular for her advocacy for the downtrodden and for the inclusion of music and the arts in education. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 Let's go live to the city of Santiago, where we have Alice Gerzhoy reporting the count. NBC News BOT 02/28/2021

  • The camera cuts from the NBC News studios to Baroness LaBelle in Santiago, Santander.

BARONESS LABELLE: Good evening. It is a pleasure to be here today. I have been asked by the Regional Chief Elections Officer to read the final results of this election. I will ask him to please join me here to certify the results. MAN WITH GLASSES: Good evening. For the Region of Santander, I, Felipe Calderon del Colmo, by the powers vested in me by the government of the Region of Santander do hereby certify and confirm the following election results to be true, final, and complete.

Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 Live from Santander, home of Primo de Aguilar and of the Liberal Alliance legacy, has solidified behind the Federal Humanist Party, giving them a stunning 55.7% of the vote. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Alice, can you tell us more about what happened? NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 GERZHOY: The Region of Santander throughout the election was swinging back and forth, back and forth between the Progressive Federalists and Cambio Democratico. Indeed, it seemed like this Region would go for either of those two parties with the Federal Humanists a close second. GERZHOY: However, in the final weeks of the campaign, Cambio Democratico and the Progressive Federalists both came out with plans to curb guns. This is a region where outside of its cities, there are issues with security, especially since the Region has a long border with the Keltian Green. GERHOY: Cambio Democratico saw itself particularly hurt by its pledge to ban guns altogether, one that seems to have driven many of the voters in the suburbs and outside of cities to come out to vote decisively against Cambio. However, this is not just a rebuke against them. It's a rebuke against the PFP for their own gun control proposals, which were vague and just defined as "common sense". GERHOY: This is also a Region where the security issue comes up again, also another Region that borders the Bassarid Empire. The defense plank of the Federal Humanists had wide appeal here. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Thank you, Alice. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 One moment, Ignacio. holds finger to earpiece NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 CHYRON: New Luthoria results up next... Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 We have obtained reports that the island region of New Luthoria is getting ready to announce its results. New Luthoria is particularly interesting. This is a Region that has its overall political composition leaning right. However, the high profile and personal popularity that Santiago Etienne has mustered in his home Region seems particularly strong, enough to bring a strong performance here. NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 The camera cuts to the count in New Luthoria City WOMAN WITH PINK WIG: Good evening. For the Region of New Luthoria, I, Kyrsten Sinema, by the powers vested in me by the government of the Region of New Luthoria do hereby certify and confirm the following election results to be true, final, and complete.

Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 A stunning result tonight coming from New Luthoria. The Federal Humanist Party ekes a plurality of the vote in a Region where it seems the many sectors of society in New Luthoria are coalescing behind Cambio Democratico and their beloved son, Santiago Etienne. Edgard02/28/2021 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Small 5 min break - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Edgard02/28/2021 @ChaimWajnstein can you please test if you can post here? Just want to do a quick mic check. :wink: ChaimWajnstein02/28/2021 (Yep) All good for me @Edgard Edgard02/28/2021 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 This is a razor thin victory for the FHP, but Etienne has shown his strength in his home region. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 We have with us tonight, Santiago Etienne, himself. Good evening, Mr. Etienne, welcome. @ChaimWajnstein ChaimWajnstein02/28/2021 Good evening, happy to join you tonight. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 Glad to have you, sir, you must be happy with your performance here in New Luthoria. This is a Region that skews to the right, a natural area for the Federal Humanists to have a strong victory, but you have managed to lead Cambio into a stunning performance here. How do you feel? What's going through your mind? ChaimWajnstein02/28/2021 Well, I’m thrilled with the result of course. My home region naturally skews to the right, as you indicated - I have relatives of my own who didn’t vote CD. So to see such an outstanding showing for both my party and PFP - I think it’s a sign of a rapidly changing electorate, demanding something new and different from our leaders. I would note that the real result tonight in New Luthoria is not the narrow Humanist plurality - but the fairly overwhelming majority for center and left parties. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Indeed, that is duly noted as truly remarkable here. It looks like Cambio has also managed to solidify a wide share of the left and center in New Luthoria, even without taking into account the Progressive Federalists. There have been concerns that the so-called "design plagiarism" and the allegations of financial support from abroad hurt the party in many places. But it doesn't seem like it did here. What do you say to those allegations? ChaimWajnstein02/28/2021 I can tackle those allegations quickly tonight. We have never and will never accepted any illegal or foreign financial support, period. And we never will. That is my guarantee as leader. These accusations are baseless. As for the design question - look. The truth is, many parties rely on open source design elements. Our campaign team is among those who have. I would rather talk about the issues and the electorate. Clearly, the people of New Luthoria are more interested in our agenda than the particulars our clip art. Ignacio, what I would really like to say is that this result is a clear victory for an emerging center left coalition in New Alexandria. I’m optimistic about what can be accomplished. NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 CHYRON: RESULTS FOR NORTH LYRICA TO BE RELEASED... Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Thank you so much for being with us tonight, Mr. Etienne. We'll have to cut to the next series of results, thank you. ChaimWajnstein02/28/2021 Thank you. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 A special thank you to Mr. Etienne, leader of Cambio Democratico. We will now go to North Lyrica, where its results are being released live tonight from its capital, Beaufort. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 North Lyrica is the home Region of the Federal Humanist Party's leader, Augustus Strong. The Federal Humanist Party is extremely popular in this region, especially due to its iron-clad commitments to the new settlements in this Region. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 We are expecting North Lyrica to be a strong performance for the Federal Humanist Party... we will now go live to our correspondant on site, Maria Hagerty. NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 HAGERTY: Thank you, Vanessa, Ignacio. HAGERTY: The results are being announced right now, let's have a listen. Edgard02/28/2021 MAN: Good evening. For the Region of North Lyrica, I, Joseph Cavalieri, by the powers vested in me by the government of the Region of North Lyrica do hereby certify and confirm the following election results to be true, final, and complete.

NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 HAGERTY: A strong victory for the Federal Humanist Party - now, this was expected, but it seems that in the final stretches of the campaign, the party ran its score here with record rural turnout that overwhelmed many of the polling stations in the Region. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 A great victory for the Federal Humanist Party here, let's go now to their victory party in North Lyrica, where we can speak with their leader, Augustus Strong. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Mr. Strong, welcome. Ardy02/28/2021 Thank you, it is a pleasure to be here this evening. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 Mr. Strong, this is a stunning victory. It looks like your party is on track to win the elections tonight. How are you feeling tonight? What's the next steps here for you and the FHP? Ardy02/28/2021 Thank you kindly, but I don't think we can count our chicks before they've hatched. I'm certainly pleased with how things have gone thus far. Nonetheless, I think a time of hard bargaining is ahead of us. Vanessa Deveraux BOT 02/28/2021 A time of hard bargaining, you say. Of course, you cannot reveal specific details of negotiations here as the count continues, but do you have a vision for who you can see partnering with? Anything you can reveal tonight? Ardy02/28/2021 I think you can draw your own conclusions when I say that our primary interest is in pursuing discussions with those who have brought credible policy platforms to the table. We have our priorities and they have theirs. As long as we are able to reach an understanding as to our respective red lines I am confident that dialogue in the days ahead will be fruitful. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Very well, Mr. Strong. One more question, before we lose you to the party going on in the background there. Throughout the campaign, some rivals accused you of militarizing the country, disrespect to the working classes, and that your party has authoritarian tendencies. What do you say to those accusations? Ardy02/28/2021 I feel that our friends in the Cambio and elsewhere who have expressed these concerns need to take a closer look at the world in which we live. The defence of the realm is the first and foremost service that a state can provide for its citizenry. Our desire is always for peace, but our policy is always to bring the maximum available force to the table in order to enforce that peace. I hope that our viewers at home will agree that this is the path of pragmatism and prudence rather than the recklessness that has been alleged. NBC News BOT 02/28/2021 CHYRON: Wechua Nation results up next... Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 Very well, Mr. Strong, thank you for joining us tonight. Ardy02/28/2021 Thank you, it has been my pleasure. Ignacio Perez BOT 02/28/2021 And now, we are getting reports that one of the largest and most populous Regions of the country is getting ready to release its results... we go live to Parap for the results. Edgard02/28/2021 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thank you all! It's been now, probably like 4 hours since I started this special and my day has complicated somewhat, so I'll wrap this up quickly. I'm going to post below the remaining results along with the final totals.
