4 YEARS LATER: ALKHIVA OIL SPILL TEACHES LESSONS TO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

ALKHIVA, ALDURIA -- The massive oil spill in Alkhiva, Alduria 4 years ago still is fresh in the minds of the residents of Alkhiva and its nearby coasts.

Today, the federal Department of Energy and Environment released a comprehensive report written and co-authored by local Aldurian agencies that confirm that the Alkhivan oil spill has been neutralized and cleaned up.

"For the last four years, we have cleaned up tar and made extensive evaluations and expeditions to confirm that the oil has been cleaned, and we can confirm with certainty that it has," says the report.

It is not yet entirely clear if any more oil remains in sediment and in the depths of the ocean, but the report unveils extensive testing and exploration confirms minimal to no trace of oil is left in the coasts or waters around Alkhiva.

The Alkhivan oil spill released millions of barrels of crude oil into the sea and resulted in the arrest of several executives and managers in the Aldurian Oil Company for their efforts to cover-up the spill and minimize its effects.

FHP ABSTAINS ON OWN CHIEF JUSTICE NOMINATION

Mass abstentions reveal fractures inside secretive party over nomination of Júlio Durán

Cárdenas, FCD -- 258 Deputies out of the FHP's 344 Deputies in the Federal Assembly abstained in protest over the Government's nomination of Júlio Durán to Chief Justice of the nation's highest court.

Only 86 Deputies, including the President of the Government, voted for the nomination. The nomination passed mostly on the backs of the Opposition. The Vice-President of the Government and former President, Augustus Strong, joined the 258 Deputies in abstaining from the vote.

The vote reveals divisions inside the party and the Government over the nomination. The FHP and President Seydlitz remain tight-lipped on the steep division, which has launched speculation outside of the party.

On Tweeter, the leader of the Opposition, Julio Delgado, blasted the Government and the FHP over the abstentions. "This abdication of responsibility from 75% of the FHP shows the continual complacency of the FHP and the Government," said Delgado. He also attacked the FHP and the Government for not being forthcoming about the reservations on their own nomination.

CAMPOS, LAVAUD STRIKE BACK AT ANTI-NPP RHETORIC FROM GOVERNMENT

Former Premiers defend their legacy and caution Government to "serve the people"
(left) Fmr. Premier Alejandro Campos, (right) Fmr. Premier Jean-Michel Lavaud

Cárdenas, FCD -- Former Premiers Alejandro Campos and Jean-Michel Lavaud, formerly bitter rivals, have broken their post-political service silence today to condemn the recent attacks the Federal Humanist Party has leveled on the legacy of their government, in particular the New Prosperity Plan.

In a joint statement, both Premiers remained conciliatory but warned the Government:

There's always room for debate and for disagreement. Certainly, we both agree that there were shortcomings to the New Prosperity Plan that we were not able to address when we were in public service.
However, we stand firmly and unequivocally with what a myriad of economists, analysts, and experts agree: the New Prosperity Plan brought unparalleled investment in infrastructure, education, defense, housing, health, and transportation. Without the New Prosperity Plan, the economic growth and prosperity we have right now would not have been possible.

Instead of referring to New Alexandrians as "supplicant wastrels", the Government ought to pivot to find solutions to the challenges facing the country. The foremost duty of the Government is to serve the people.
Let us not forget Our Great Purpose, enshrined in the Proclamation of Punta Santiago: "the Great Purpose of this Federation is to ensure the survival of our people, to be mindful of our responsibility towards creation, to secure and renew an ever-present alliance between our people to strengthen liberty and democracy, independence and peace in solidarity and openness towards the world, determined, with mutual respect and recognition, to live our diversity in unity, conscious of our common achievements and our responsibility towards posterity, certain that free is only who uses his freedom, and that the strength of a people is measured by the welfare of the weak..."
