The Sultan is the ceremonial head-of-state of Kurum Ash-Sharqia. Salah Ad-Din Al-Lusirni is the nation's first Sultan. He was offered the crown in 1700 AN because of his outstanding tenure as president of New Batavia. In 1701 AN he married Batavian princess Elisabeth Asara des Vinandy. As a consequence of that marriage, he automatically became a knight of the Holy Lakes in Hurmu.

The reigning sultan appoints a crown prince from within his house, who will ascend the throne on the sultan's abdication or demise. The traditions of the House of Al-Lusirni dictate this to be done by a principle known as "agnatic seniority".
