Madison Isle Batavian or Madison Eilân Batavian is an official language of the South Sea Islands originating from the Madison Isles.
Following the establishment of Batavian sovereignty over the formerly Britannic archipelago, an intermingling of old and new cultures resulted in a form of the Batavian language that was heavily impacted by Britannic Istvanistani. Although the language was short lived in the Madison Isles themselves, during the migration of settlers to the South Sea Islands the language made its way there and became firmly established.
Madison Isle Batavian was made of the two official languages of the South Sea Islands when the nation was constituted in 1501, and there are believed to be between 1700 and 2000 native speakers alive today.
Alphabet
While Madison Isle Batavian is written using the standard Latin alphabet, vowels with diacritics are sometimes considered to be separate letters in their own right.
The vowels in question are Ââ, Êê, Éé, Ôô, Ûû and Úú.
Additionally, the letters I and Y are used interchangeably in certain contexts, and both are included between H and J in the written alphabet.
Legal Status
As an official language of the South Sea Islands, Madison Isle Batavian has official status in all areas of the national territory. While the majority of the language's speakers are found in Zuid-Ricel, citizens anywhere on the islands are entitled to receive government services in their preferred language.
While education, healthcare and other public services are primarily provided in Britannic Istvanistani, they are made available in Madison Isle Batavian upon request (although in some cases the requester may be provided with transport to a location where services can be provided in their preferred language, as Madison Isle Batavian is not widely spoken in some areas).
