2022–23 Lega D Vegnese

The Lega D Vegnese (Ist: Vegnese League D, colloquially Lega D) is the fourth-ranked league in the Vegnese football system after the Lega C, Lega B and Lega A.

Structure

Lega D consists of 64 teams split into 4 regional divisions (Gironi), usually formed of 16 teams each, divided geographically. For 2022–23 Lega D Vegnese the distribution by region was as follows:

  • Girone A – teams from northern and island regions;
  • Girone B – teams from central and northern regions;
  • Girone C – teams from central and southern regions;
  • Girone D – teams from southern regions;

Format

The first-placed team from each division is promoted to Lega C each year, replacing 6 teams from Lega C relegated to Lega D. The bottom two teams from each division are relegated to Lega D.

Promotion play-offs

Playoffs are held at the conclusion of the regular season and involve teams placed second through fifth in each division. The first two rounds are single game elimination matches played at the home of the higher-classified team. Games ending in ties are extended to extra time. If games are still tied after extra time, the higher classified team is declared the winner. No penalty shootout takes place.

Girone A and Girone B play-off winners compete in the North Final (two-legged game and, if teams are tied on aggregate, the winner is decided by extra-time and a penalty shootout if required). The same happens for Girone C and Girone D with the South Final. The teams that win their respective regional finals are promoted to Lega C.

Relegation play-outs

Four teams from each girone compete to avoid relegation. Fixtures pair the 14th v 13rd-placed teams. Matches are two-legged, the higher-placed team plays at home for second leg and, if teams are tied on aggregate, the lower-placed team is relegated to Lega Interregionale. However, if the higher-placed team finishes 9 or more points ahead of the lower-placed team, play-out is canceled and team is relegated directly.
