Free Princess Katarzyna Jelita Żądło Karomecki Zamoyski-Holsetz of the Free City of Vatakan is the incumbent monarch of the Free City of Vatakan, which is a dependency of the Ciric Confederacy. Before the city's transition to a representative republic-style government, Katarzyna served as the town's ealdorman, essentially investing her with absolute rule that ended after her three year term would be up. However, due to the formation of the city as a dependency within the Ciric Confederacy, and the creation of the republic, she was invested as the first monarch and dynastic founder of the city, allowing her to serve as a figurehead and transforming the representative republic into a crowned republic. Though Katarzyna possesses little "real" power, her status as Free Princess has gifted her symbolic responsibilities peculiar to the monarch of the city of Vatakan, especially in the legal process and the "face" presented to outsiders of the city.

As Katarzyna is the founder of a dynasty, she did not inherit any titles from her parents, who are, though important, still politicians in the city of Avok-Tei, though they do technically hold the titles of Lord and Lady of Vatakan due to their blood relation with Katarzyna.

Early Life

Katarzyna was born "Katarzyna Zamoyski-Karomecki" in the city of Zaisten, in the governorate of Paroka in the Ciric Confederacy. She was born to Jakub Zamoyski, who was a practicing surgeon in the city, and Anastazja Karomecki, who was a prominent lawyer in Zaisten. Katarzyna led a relatively sheltered childhood, going to private primary education while her parents slowly detached themselves from both of their careers and became politicians, with Jakub Zamoyski successfully being elected to the Zaisten local parliament in 1654. In 1656, Katarzyna graduated from primary education early and moved onto the campus of the Holsetz University in the subterritorial Kingdom of Lumis in Wrighthaven, where she became friends with then-Prince Wilhelm vän Holsetz-Charmant of Lumis, who was heir-apparent to his grandfather King Karl IX of Lumis. Katarzyna studied law at the Holsetz University, and eventually went on to graduate with a masters.

Katarzyna then moved back to Zaisten, becoming a defence attorney and politician in support of the Ciric Workers' Party.

Vatakan

Katarzyna left behind politics and joined the party which was to become the expedition that would found the city of Vatakan in 1678, one year before it formally left. Her parents were not supportive of this decision, but in Lumis, King Wilhelm (who had succeeded to the Lumisian throne after King Karl IX had died of pneumonia) sent money and supplies for the expedition, which was far outside the realm of normalcy for Lumis's typical insular activities. These supplies turned out to be vital when the new village had a massive crop failure in mid 1679. Katarzyna quickly became the town's leader, and was elected the town ealdorman when the first government for the growing town sprang up. Katarzyna proved her effective management capabilities in this position, reducing the hunger problems by better laying out farms, and sending some raw materials gathered early on back to the confederacy in return for sophisticated farming equipment, allowing the early Vatakan village to stabilise its food production.

When the city transitioned to a republican government, due to the city's rapid growth in population and the discontent with the autocratic nature of the village ealdorman system, the elected Premiere, Witold Karków, before he took office, proposed the idea of a figurehead monarchy for the political image of the city, both domestically and in foreign affairs. The Vatakan Board of Associates acquiesced, and the Premiere called a vote to determine who would head the first dynastic family of the newly-established position of "Free Prince" (or Princess) of Vatakan. The vote was a landslide in favour of Katarzyna, who accepted the position with grace. Witold then authorised the construction of the Czaciskie Palace in Vatakan for the monarchy.

Marriage

In early 1680, Peter vän Stauf II, baron of Trieben of Lumis and cousin of King Wilhelm I of Lumis, journeyed to the city of Vatakan in order to establish formal lines of shipping for new construction materials to Lumis, which were to be shipped through Vatakan. Peter and Katarzyna had a history together (Katarzyna had met Peter while she was being educated in Lumis), and Katarzyn announced that she had apparently been engaged to Peter before coming to Vatakan. Not long afterwards, Peter and Katarzyna were wed in Vatakan, and Peter moved to the city, as well as officially changing his name to "Piotr", the Vatkavish version of his name (though in Lumis, he is still known as "Peter"). From this marriage, Princess Katarzyna gained the noble title "Baronet of Trieben", and Piotr became Prince Consort in Vatakan.

Following the marriage, in mid 1680 (after the purchase of Vatakan by the Andromeda Tech Corporation), Katarzyna and Piotr announced that they would be adopting an orphaned dragon child who had apparently been abandoned on a ship bound for Vatakan and had been stranded in the city. Named Stefan Zamoyski-Holsetz, this adoptive child raised questions amongst Vatakanians when Kondrat Zamoyski-Holsetz was born five months later; upon further examination of the Free Covenant of Vatakan, there was not a clear delineation on the succession procedure for adoptive children of the monarch. The debate is ongoing, but is also not seen to be a particularly pressing problem because of the improbability of either Stefan or Kondrat to be required to ascend to the throne due to the good health of both of their parents.

Katarzyn and Piotr have the following children:
