Jon-Jan Jónsen is a Craitish former-footballer who last played for Biulya äqi Jedu FC, with whom he spent the majority of his career. Ordinarily an attacking midfielder, Jónsen dropped into a deeper role during the latter stages of his career and won a total of 48 caps internationally.
Career
Club
Jónsen started his professional career as an 18 year-old ahead of the inaugural Craitish season by signing for Xäiville Teflons FC, where he was handed the team's number 10 shirt. Although the club struggled competitively in its early years, Jónsen was somewhat of a standout player, alongside midfield partner Jón F'achh, and his performances led to a Cr 2 million move to Biulya äqi Jedu FC in the summer of 2005; a then-record transfer for the league.
Jónsen took the 12 shirt at BäJ, and was immediately made a regular in the starting line-up in his first season there. Although the club was unable to finish higher than fifth in his first three years there, Jónsen personally had a strong 2007 season as he scored four league goals and attracted interest from abroad before ultimately remaining with the side. The 2009 campaign saw Jónsen help the club to third in the league and a first tournament victory, while a consecutive top-three finish followed in 2010. As mid-table finishes followed for the following three years, Jónsen was the club's top scorer in 2012 as he scored a personal-best twelve league goals.
The 2014 season began a period of unprecedented success for the team as a second-placed finish in the league was crowned by a second King's Cup triumph, as Jónsen scored eight league goals including an opening-day hat-trick. Jónsen was exposed to further competition for his starting place during this time due to the addition of the highly-rated Gerenian youngster Zelmar Toscano. BäJ secured a treble of trophies the following year, with Jónsen's nine goals part of a first league title as the team also became the first from Craitland to win the WMFA Champions' League, before adding the 2015 FMF Champions' League to their honours. Although only finishing third in the league in 2016, the club won a second consecutive WMFA title that year as Jónsen's involvement was limited to just two league goals. Jónsen scored thrice in the 2017 campaign, but was unable to help the club finish higher than sixth, and announced his retirement from football after the culmination of the season at the age of 33, with six winner's medals to his name.
International
Jónsen received his first international call-up for Craitland in 2009 and remained an infrequently used option for a number of years with Yaqin Senovichi and Äl Chentzansio-Herä ahead of him in the managers' plans. Jónsen's big international breakthrough came in 2012, after an impressive domestic season, as he was included in the squad for the 2012 FMF World Cup and scored his first goal in a friendly against Sanilla. Although Craitland ultimately underwhelmed and were eliminated in the quarter-finals, Jónsen's last-minute goal against Mercury in the final group match salvaged a 1–1 draw which allowed the team to advance past the group stage and maintain a record of always reaching the World Cup knock-out rounds. The following year, Jónsen was a mainstay in the squads for the 2013 EMU Championships, where the team failed to advance from their group, and the 2013 FMF World Cup, where they fared better by finishing in fourth place, with Jónsen helping them to an unbeaten group record and scoring the decisive penalty in the quarter-final shoot-out versus North Antarctica.
Although Jónsen was included in the Craitish 2014 World Cup squad, his role was decreased due to tactical formation changes, but still made a number of appearances as the team finished in third place; their highest placing in three years. Jónsen's final tournament was the 2015 FMF World Cup, where he again played a supporting role, but managed to score his second World Cup goal in a group win over Gotzborg to help Craitland advance to the quarter-finals before losing to eventual champions Hamland. Jónsen last played for the national team in 2016, during the qualifiers for the Benacia Cup but not being named in the final squad, although remained eligible for call-ups until his full retirement in 2017, when he ended his career having played for Craitland 48 times and scoring eleven goals.
