The national symbol of the Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union is the Bijeko-Lisea-Nas, Corum's top land based predator.

The Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union, otherwise unofficially known as The Bassarids or The Bassarid Empire is an economic, political, religious, and military union between Passio-Corum and the Maritime Markets of the Strait of Haifa which occupies a vast portion of Micras' eastern hemisphere. The union exists on the basis of both nations' shared commitment to the value of the Port of Vines and the USSO Common Market as embodiment of the Post Standardized Currency, as well as from a shared recognition of the mutually beneficial relationship which exists between the Pallisican Religion and the Stripping Path. The Imperial Trade Union was established via a decree issued by Kan Zen, who in 36.81 PSSC simultaneously fulfilled the role of Crown of Passio-Corum and of de-facto ruler of the Maritime Markets. With that said, the history of the Trade Union is rooted in the legacy of Queen Mina I, the last queen of the Kingdom of Passas.

The Bassarids are among the more infuential nations in modern history. The nation is best known for its highly efficient, highly productive, and highly controversial economic system, which has driven the nation's expansion across the east, and which has led to the establishment of one of the largest international markets in history. Insofar as it is the birthplace of two major world religions: the Pallisican Religion and the Stripping Path, the nation is also regarded for its highly defined religious culture. The latter of these two religions has since its inception played a central role in several major conflicts in recent history. In addition to its contributions to the fields of economics and religion, the Bassarids are also known for their commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and the advancement of science. To this end, the Bassarids have led the way in the study of astronomy, zoology, and several other scientific fields. The nation is also a leading developer of military technology, which is used by allies around the world. The New Zimian War League, for its part, is among the most formidable military forces on Micras. Despite all of this, it is also the case that the Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union is also perhaps the most politically unpopular and widely resented nation in the world. This owes in part to the role which the nation played in the Harpy War, a brutal conflict which arose in Keltia during the final stages of the internationally waged War of Lost Brothers, as well as to the perceived demeanor of Bassarid leaders in their interactions with foreign dignitaries. For its part, the Bassarid government mostly restricts interactions to the other members of the USSO, an organization which the nation itself helped to establish, along with important allies such as Jingdao, Nova England, Craitland, and the now defunct nation of Gerenia.

History

A Timeline of Historical Events

Date Event Significance
27.89 PSSC (5105 ASC) Ascension of Queen Mina I The ascension of Queen Mina to the Crown of Passas marks the establishment of the trade-based cultural identity which will define the Pallisican nation for years to come.
28.30 PSSC (5139 ASC) The Romance of Queen Mina I and Erlo Sinders A secretive love affair between Mina I and the Haifo-Pallisican Governor of the Wallis Islands, Erlo Sinders, leads to the establishment of the Wallis Shipping Corporation.
28.79 PSSC (5270 ASC) King Lucien IV Establishes Passio-Corum King Lucien IV, son of Mina I and Erlo Sinders, establishes the city of Lucien as the capital of Passio-Corum, marking the birth of an independent Pallisican nation in Corum, and annexes the Wallis Islands and the Domain of the North Antarctic from the Free State of Haifa
30.56 PSSC (5593 ASC) - 34.61 PSSC (6335 ASC) The Expansion of the Pallisican Realm King Lucien I is succeeded by his daughter Queen Evahn I, and her protege, the first Oracle Monarch Queen Esper I, whose efforts result in the expansion of Passio-Corum to all reaches of the Sea of Storms.
30.77 PSSC (5361 ASC) The Dissolution of the Free State of Haifa The Free State of Haifa is dissolved, resulting in a migration of Haifans around the world. For the most part, the Haifan diaspora settle along the Strait of Haifa, while others settle in Apollonia and Eura, as well as in all regions of Passio-Corum.
33.72 PSSC (6172 ASC) The Establishment of the Maritime Markets of the Strait of Haifa The Maritime Markets are established by Haifans displaced by the dissolution of the Free State of Haifa. Blore Heath is established as the capital of the markets.
33.96 PSSC (6216 ASC) The Birth of the Stripping Path The Stripping Path sweeps across the Maritime Markets of the Strait of Haifa, rapidly becoming the predominant religion of Haifans in central Keltia.
34.61 PSSC (6335 ASC) Infiltration of the Council of Courts by the Stripping Path With the ascension of Kan Zen to the office of Companion of the Crown, the Stripping Path gains a foothold in the highest levels of the government of Passio-Corum.
34.61 PSSC (6335 ASC) - 35.07 PSSC (6418 ASC) Expansion of the Stripping Path Supported by agents working closely in secret with the Crown of Passio-Corum, the Stripping Path expands its influence into new lands including the island of Rouge, and Vaeringheim. This expansion begins to put pressure on nations along the Strait of Haifa, including Caputia and Natopia.
35.04 PSSC (6414 ASC) Establishment of the USSO The USSO is established, allowing for the creation of unprecedented, complex trade networks between nations around the world, including Passio-Corum, Jingdao, and Gerenia.
35.19 PSSC (6441 ASC) - 35.24 PSSC (6450 ASC) Assassination of Opyeme Amor Crown Opyeme Amor is murdered after attempting to interfere in trade relations between the Strait of Haifa and Shireroth, by Companion Kan Zen, who soon after ascends to the Crown of Passio-Corum in what is regarded within the Pallisican Religion as the Miracle of Kan Zen. The ascension of Zen to the crown marks the conversion of the Pallisican monarch to the Haifan Stripping Path.
35.69 PSSC (6533 ASC) Maritime Markets Join the USSO The Maritime Markets of the Strait of Haifa join the USSO as an Associate Member, allowing for the establishment of direct, transparent trade relations between the Markets and Passio-Corum and its allies.
36.64 PSSC (6651 ASC) War of Lost Brothers Commences The War of Lost Brothers drives the radical expansion of trade between active members of the USSO Common Market, resulting in a considerable tightening of relations between Passio-Corum and the Maritime Markets, and Passio-Corum and Jingdao.
36.77 PSSC (6730 ASC) Port of Vines is Established The Port of Vines is established following the ascension of Crown Zen to the position of Priestess of Agripinilla, in an effort to streamline trade, and political and military coordination between the Maritime Markets and Passio-Corum during the War of Lost Brothers. The establishment of the Port of Vines inspires the outbreak of the Harpy War.
36.81 PSSC/148/03/36 PSSC (6737 ASC) Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union is Established The Bassarid Empire is established, in a move which serves to politically unify Passio-Corum and the Maritime Markets. The establishment of the new nation stuns the international community, and helps to accelerate the end of the Strait of Haifa Campaign, the last major conflict which occurred as part of the greater War of Lost Brothers.
159/03/36 PSSC (- ASC) Abdication of Kan Zen Eleven days after the establishment of the new union between the two nations, Empress Kan Zen appoints a new Oracle, in a move which indicates her imminent abdication. Zen, however, shocks observers when on 164/03/37, she names as the new ruler of the nation, not the Oracle whom she has just named, but the recently appointed Bassarid Chief Intelligence Officer. Zen's decision in this respect marks the end of the so-called "Era of Oracle Rulers." For the first time since the ascension of Queen Esper I, the nation is no longer governed by the leader of the Pallisican Religion.
159/03/36 PSSC - Present (- ASC) Early Reign of Díapaza Bréidle Upon ascending to the position of Crown of Passio-Corum, Díapaza Bréidle immediately begins to implement a series of reforms aimed at repairing the nation's international reputation following the brutal Harpy War, while continuing to expand the nation's empire. She places restrictions on the growing Bassarid cannibal industry, prohibits funding for criminal operations in the Bassarid Kingdom of New Normark, and expressly rejects support for Bassarid-affiliated pirate organizations who prey upon vessels representing the newly established nation of Alduria. With that said, she also greatly expands Bassarid non-territorial claims around the world. To this end, she authorizes the establishment of organizations such as the Alliance of the Bassarid Oceans and the Dominion of the Corumian Green. The apparent contradictions in Bréidle's policies during the early part of her reign prompt outrage and confusion abroad, as an increasing number of nations attempt to distance themselves from the Bassarids. This trend accelerates in 38.90 PSSC, when the New Zimian War League - at the command of the new empress - launches an invasion and occupation of Haifa in the immediate aftermath of the dissolution of Caputia. This conflict, known as the Haifan Civil War, nearly results in world war as the Bassarids rapidly expand the scope of their operations to include a blockade upon Hoenn, an island nation located far away from the center of fighting in Haifa. Ultimately world war is averted, and the Bassarids are allowed to focus fighting Jezeri insurgents who seek to claim Haifa for themselves. The Haifan Civil War resolves in a stalemate between the Bassarid and Bassarid-backed forces, and Jezeraah. While the Bassarids manage to significantly expand their territorial claims around Lake Morovia, and to establish command of all major Haifan cities, the New Zimian War League is also unable to prevent Jezeraah from establishing itself as a recognized independent nation. Control of the city of Abeis itself is divided between the Bassarids and Jezeraah.

The Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union is the political entity which facilitates the existence of the trade networks between the states of Passio-Corum and the Maritime Markets of the Strait of Haifa which arise as a result of investment in the Port of Vines. To this extent, the Trade Union maintains and protects a system of complex trade routes which extend continuously from North to South for at least 18,000 km, and from East to West for over 23,000 km. The Bassarids, to this end, extend across the entirety of Micras' eastern hemisphere, and into portions of the west. As such, the Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union - though its actual land claims are relatively limited - is perhaps the most expansive and geographically influential nation in the world. The overall expansiveness of Bassarid territorial claims is a significant source of animosity by members of the international community towards the Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union.

The Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union is divided between a total of 29 semi-independent states or territorial governing bodies, which span across the continents of Apollonia, Cibola, Corum, Eura, and Keltia. These 29 territories can be grouped into Associate Domains, broad political regions governed by rulers appointed by the Crown of Passio-Corum, which maintain high levels of autonomy from the central Bassarid government. The Associate Domains and their constituent members are listed in the table below:

Coat of Arms Haifopallisica.png
Coat of Arms of Haifo-Pallisica
Adopted in the 36.80's PSSC, the Coat of Arms of of the Haifo-Pallisican Imperial Trade Union combines elements inspired by the crests of the Greater Pallisican Trade Association, the Maritime Markets of the Strait of Haifa, and the Stripping Path.
  1. The Flag of the Trade Union: The flag of the Trade Union is displayed prominently across the shield which is the centerpiece of the nation's coat of arms.
  2. The White-Faced Weasel: The most ancient symbol of the Passasian nation, the white-faced weasel runs across the nation's flag, in the direction opposite that of the weasel featured on the crest of Passio-Corum. This difference represents the shift in national identity which occurred upon the ascension of Kan Zen to the position of Crown of Passio-Corum.
  3. Labyrinth Knot: The symbol of the force of Chaos in the Haifan religion, the Labyrinth Knot occupies a position of prominence above the White-Faced Weasel, such that it symbolizes the preeminence of chaos before all things.
  4. The Grand Skep: Two communities of bees swarm towards the Grand Skep, symbolizing the joining of houses of Passio-Corum and the Maritime Markets.
  5. The Rising Sun: Atos rises constantly above the ever-expanding Bassarid Empire.
  6. The Maenad Mermaids: The mermaids - the guardians of the Eastern Oceans who drink mystic wine from sacred sea-shells - are an ancient Keltian symbol of profound devotion to Dionysus, the primary god of the Haifan people.
  7. The Uso-Oname: The purple laurel at the bottom of the Coat of Arms represents the Uso-Oname, the national tree of Passio-Corum. The gray ribbon at the bottom of the laurel represents the trunk of the Uso-Oname. The pale pink bulbs represent the sweet-smelling flowers of the Uso, in the final stage before entering full bloom.
