The Franklin Islands national football team is the football team which currently represents the Mercurian autonomous territory of the Franklin Islands, and previously represented the independent nation of the same name. It is a member of the WMFA.

The team has existed twice in the FMF's history; firstly between 2014 and late 2016 as an independent nation, and secondly since early 2019 as an autonomous territory of Mercury.

History

The team was founded in 2014 after the Franklin Islands' Micrasian claim was successful. Later in the year, the team entered the inaugural Emerging Nations Cup, where they heavily lost both of their matches and finished fourth.

In their first qualifiers the following year, the team were comfortably beaten in all of their matches as they finished bottom of their four-team group having scored no goals and conceded 49. Later in the year, the team competed in the second Emerging Nations Cup, where they again finished fourth following two defeats.

The 2016 Benacia Cup qualification rounds saw the team lose all eight of their matches as they finished bottom of their five-team group with no points to their name. Later in the year, the team competed in the 2016 Emerging Nations Cup; losing their quarter-final to Lucerne. The Franklin Islands left Micras in late 2016.

The Franklin Islands returned to Micras in early 2019 after being established as a territory of Mercury. In the 2019 World Cup qualifiers soon afterwards, the team finished bottom of their six-team group having lost all ten of their matches heavily. Soon afterwards, the team competed in the 2019 Emerging Nations Cup, losing their quarter-final 6–0 to Florian Eura.

In the following year's Benacia Cup qualifiers, the team finished bottom of their four-team group after losing all of their matches heavily, including a world record defeat; a record which invited them to another Emerging Nations Cup, where they were again eliminated in the quarter-finals.
