The FMF is split into four regional confederations, which are used for a more structured organisation of the FMF. The confederations are responsible for the organisation of the qualifying rounds for the FMF World Cup, as well as a number of regional international and club competitions.

The FMF confederations were created in 2007 prior to the inaugural World Cup qualifying tournaments in order for a more geographically equal spread of nations competing in the World Cup finals. The number of confederations and their names have remained the same since. However, early 2014 saw a slight modification of the CTFA's boundaries to include the continent of Corum; traditionally seen as part of the EMUFA.
