The Elwynn River is a prominent river system running through Eastern Benacia. It borders Shireroth, Ashkenatza, Victoria, and the Republic of Elwynn.

The Elwynn River as shown on the Physical Map of Micras.

The Elwynn River was probably named after an area in the computer game Warcraft, although the Shirerithians are embarrassed about this and try to avoid the subject. Alternative names such as "Eluin" and "Eluinea" were sometimes used to deny this heritage, but none really caught on.

It begins as two large rivers, the East Elwynn and West Elwynn, both of which have their source in the Elirian Mountains. These two tributaries join at Shirekeep, from which the Elwynn proper runs through Shireroth's most important lands until it reaches the sea in a marshy delta near Musica. The Elwynn is currently dammed in a few locations, most importantly the East Elwynn Sluice in Zjandaria. This sluice provides significant power to Shireroth, but its control is fragile: during the War of the Sightseers, a well-placed bomb on the Sluice flooded parts of Brookshire and Goldshire.

"Elwynn" also refers to the area between the East Elwynn and West Elwynn rivers, to the political division of Shireroth centered around that area, to the independent country that now occupies most of that political division, and to the Treesian Unorthodox goddess who is the patron of those lands. The aboriginal inhabitants of the Elwynn region are called Elw.
