Elian Militia

The Elian Militia, raised as a demesnal self-defence force during the War of Lost Brothers, operates as a law enforcement service and paramilitary auxiliary organisation in the Elwynnese autonomous republic of Normark. Its official armaments were limited by the Constitution of Elwynn prior to the abolition of constitutional government in mainland Elwynn after 1696 AN. For civil affairs the militia reports to the Ministry of Justice in Normark whilst maintaining defence training and operational liaison links with Keltia Command of the Raspur Pact, with which it would be expected to cooperate in wartime.

The Elian Militia retained its Natopian and Bovic organisational culture, placing it increasingly at odds with the Norse nationalism evidenced in the Einhornist revival of the late 1680s. In spite of being on the wrong side of the 1688 Normark political crisis, the Elian Militia's decision to remain loyal during the Second Elwynnese Civil War was rewarded on 12.II.1693 AN with the transferal of policing powers formerly exercised by the Corps of the Gentlemen-at-Cudgels to the force.

In 1703 AN the affiliated bailiwick-level committees of defence and security were subsumed into the centralised structure of county-level regional security commands subordinated to the Security Police Division, the largest manpower component of the militia.

In 1715 AN, the Elian Militia was tasked by His Majesty with the investigation of the sudden and unexplained death of Robin Einhorn, with the assistance of an investigator seconded from the Magisters-Carnifex of the Benacian Union. Aslan Arshak duly arrived in Elijah's Rest to assist the Central Department of Criminal Investigation in its inquiries.

The series of defeats experienced by Normark following the ill-starred attempt to effect the liberation of Dalen, saw the Elian Militia once more pressed into a war fighting role, its ranks swelled with auxiliaries impressed into service, and expanded to 470,320 men and women under arms.
