Old map of Eesdeheito

Eesdeheito (Crandish for the "Eastern Heath") was a territory and independent kingdom located in northeastern Apollonia. It was primarily held as a vassal state of Stormark for most of its existence, but was also associated with Cranda and Hurmu. To a lesser extent it was also related to Lac Glacei through the joint condominium at Seivannavik. The people of Eesdeheito are related to the ethnic Crandish of Heathersland. Both names refer to the vast heaths that occupy the lowlands north of the Glacei Mountains.

History

Originally the area of Eesdeheito was settled by the Apollonian Tatars, but immigrants from Cranda and Slobovia slowly pushed these indigenous populations out. The greater majority of these migrants came from Heathersland to the west, who called it Eesdeheito, meaning 'eastern heath'. Eesdeheito first appeared as a semi-autonomous kingdom around 2123 ASC when mercenaries from Stormark supported a popular uprising against Crandish rule and founded Ulfrvik on the northern coast. From this stronghold the Storish-Eesdeheitan warriors spread rapidly and conquered the regions of Balduvien, Jutien, Leilond and Lontinye. While most of these populations were assimilated, the Lontiniens migrated south along the River Glacei to establish modern Lontinien. During this time the Eesdeheitans established other strongholds, such as Klifvatr and Fiskbat, that further solidified their power. The kingdom would reign for several centuries, outlasting even the collapse of neighboring Arminy, until its collapse in 2428 ASC.

The Keshians, a Tataric tribe, conquered the area and established Grot Kesh around 2816 ASC. Grot Kesh itself would later be incorporated into Gralus, where it would remain for several more centuries. It wasn't until the Gralan empire collapsed in 5986 ASC that Stormark would again support the re-establishment of Eesdeheito. Except that this time the region was not granted any local autonomy and was instead incorporated directly as directly subservient to the Storish crown. It would remain a Storish possession until their collapse in 7614 ASC.

Following a prolonged period of barbarism, the nations of Hurmu and Lac Glacei agreed to re-establish their former condominium at Seivannavik in 7870 ASC. Seivannavik's successful growth and development proved profitable enough that the two nations agreed to expand the condominium to include Eesdeheito and began military operations in the area in 7966 ASC (1696 AN) to push the boundaries north and begin the gradual reconquest of the region from the Green.
