The Democratic Party of Elwynn, also known as the Elwynnese Democrats, is an Elwynnese Aldricist national-liberal party stemming from the Elwynnese branches of Shireroth's Imperial Democratic Party. The party currently (1683 AN) has 2 members in the Council of Eliria, 72 seats in the Elwynnese Congress, 26 seats in the Majles, 50 seats in the Nordisketing, and 8 seats in the Miþuï. It currently leads the government of the Congressional Counties of Elwynn in a coalition with the Nationalist & Humanist Party and holds the office of Prince of Elwynn. Observers and political commentators have described the party as being both socially and economically liberal in ideology.

The current leader of the party, Helena Strand, has described it as being a "party of progress for the left and the right." Positioned in the center ground of Elwynnese politics, the Democrats ideologically draw upon both liberalism and conservatism, the latter due to the party's adherence to a more conservative strand of Aldricism. Different factions have dominated the party at different points in its history, each with their own ideological bent, some leaning towards the center-left and others the center-right. The Democrats initially opposed Elwynnese independence, instead favoring Elwynnese statehood within a reformed Shireroth. After Elwynn's statehood was confirmed, it pledged loyalty to the new state and received support from all levels of society displeased with the republican egalitarian direction Elwynn took. During this time, the party was colloquially nicknamed the "Imperial Remoaners" due to their original wish of remaining in Shireroth and "moaning" about it.

The party, more recently under the leadership of Strand, calls for constitutional reforms that favor a balance between unitary government and autonomous regions, stronger protections for civil liberties, deeper involvement in Raspur Pact and international affairs, and a more robust military. It favors a market-based economy that is supplemented with social welfare spending, lowe taxes on individuals and small businesses, and a government that is efficient and not overly bureaucratic. The party is internationalist, cosmopolitan, and strongly pro-Raspur Pact. The party is known for maintaining some significant conservative planks, such as maintaining close relations with Shireroth, financial restitution to former owners of loyal subjects and community servants, restoration of some noble privileges, and the establishment of the Kaiseress as a ceremonial head of state.

The Democratic Party of Elwynn is a member of the international organization for Aldricist parties, the Aldricist and Neoliberal Conference. The Democrats have very close strategic partnerships and political alliances with the Imperial Democratic Party in Ransenar and Shireroth. In the Elwynnese Congress, it usually cooperates with the Nationalist and Humanist Party.

History

Ideology

The official party ideology has historically included a strong ideological commitment to a mixed economy, with support for comprehensive but market-based welfare state programs, as established by the governing philosophy and policies of Hartmut Aldric, Duke of Calezi, Regent and Steward of Shireroth.

The party traditionally supports free markets, favors privatization, greater economic deregulation, and lowering tax rates on individuals, families, and small businesses. Other issues emphasized by the party are such as actions against violent crime and sex crime, increasing and promoting the value of working, investing in infrastructure, and increasing quality in education.

Foreign policy is a high-profile issue. The Democrats are always oriented towards the maintenance of close relations with all the nation members of the Raspur Pact, with the intention of seeing Elwynn take a greater leadership role inside the alliance as an economic and military power. The party is a strong opponent of Francia and Stormark, seeing them as crucial threats to the stability and prosperity of Benacia and the world. The Democratic Party of Elwynn

Aldricism

Aldricism is a conservative-liberal political ideology, originally defined by the politician and statesman Hartmut Aldric, Duke of Calezi, Regent and Steward of Shireroth. Aldricism is a political ideology combining conservative policies with liberal stances, especially on economic, social, and ethical issues. Aldric founded the Imperial Democratic Party (IDP) to represent this ideology. When Elwynn obtained its independence, the political and organizational structures and organizations of the IDP in Elwynn became the Democratic Party of Elwynn. Aldricism has also been referred to as a "neoliberal" ideology, though the term is commonly used by scholars and commentarists using opposing meanings.

Upon registration, new party members must pay a membership fee of ₦35.

The Democratic Party of Elwynn takes inspiration from the Elwynnese participatory tradition and maintains an active and passionate grassroots membership base across the country. The party has recently come to start collection small donations from party members and supporters on a weekly or monthly basis. Party membership drives and recruitment relies on a pyramidal enrolment system.

By relying on a participatory political model, a member of the Democratic Party has the opportunity to freely join or create a local committee. Each of these committees is led by one or more adherents who organize the committee by planning local events, meetings, and debates centered around the ideas, proposals, policies, and values promoted by the Democratic Party.
