Biography

Daniyal ibn Daniyal Umra Suleiman Simrâni-Kâlirion ibn al-Majeed bin Sathrati

Circumstances of his birth

He who was to become the Prince of Modan was originally conceived in an attempt to preserve Elwynn's princely line. Daniyal was the clone of Daniel Simrani-Kalirion, former Conducător and Prince of Elwynn, and brought into this world by the latter's daughter, Isabella Simrani-Kalirion, at her instigation, in an attempt to preserve the genetic purity of the Kalirion line, which had been diminished by a number of same-sex unions and adoptions, which threatened to break the ancient lineage traced back to Paul Raynor and the Kalir of Raikoth. The tenuous thread of the Kalirion genetic legacy was threatened still further by the overpowering attentions bestowed upon the Simrani sisters by the Vanic cuckoo in Elwynn's nest - the Prince Noah, who presumptuously crowned himself as King of the Land between the Two Rivers. Alarmingly for Isabella, Noor appeared to be showing indications of yielding to Noah's peculiarly ardant and persistent form of courtship (being a variation on the Octalune custom of "grabbing" albeit with costume jewellery offered by way of compensation). Disgusted, Isabella fled court in Eliria on 14 Vixaslaa 1632, having first taken the liberty to loot a Union Defence Force armoury and what remained of the family treasury, with the intention of fleeing into the ungoverned territory beyond Elwynn's borders, where a number of violent misadventures ensued.

Before she engineered her dramatic flight however, Isabella had travelled into Agnesia to attend to a matter of outstanding family business - her father. The former Prince had been held at Dragonsfold Gaol since the communist revolution of 1613 under the pretence of his insanity. The cumulative effects of two decades of Elwynnese state sanctioned psychiatric treatment had finally robbed him of his reason. Having originally intended to rescue her father, she beheld the sorry wreck of the man and knew that there was nothing to be done for him. Having bribed a facility guard, as was typical in this era a moonlighting cudgeller, Isabella directed a servant to manually extract her father's seed, afterwhich she fed him hemlock. A verdict of death by natural causes was entered, after which Isabella took the ashes of her father along with certain other genetic samples, into exile with her.

In 1634 the Isabella reached an accommodation with erstwhile Steward of Elwynn and paramilitary warlord Tokaray al-Osman whereby she acquired provisions, a cache of weapons, laboratory equipment, forty Land Cruisers and pick-up trucks, and an entourage of one-hundred and fifty paramilitaries from the Dark Orchid Society. The security detail was intended to provide protection against brigands such as Sighvat the Yardistani who are active in the Vale of Angularis. The price for this munificence was her younger sister, Miranda, who was given in marriage to Tokaray.

In late summer of 1634, Isabella and her companions took over an ethnic Ashkenatzim village in the western districts of the Vale known as šiqqǔṣ Mišômēm, and having cleansed the populace established a headquarters and base for the mobile laboratory. In Nomeziooqu 1635, Isabella's purpose for doing so became apparent when she impregnated herself with a fertilised embryo made of genetic material cloned from her father.

Her second exile came to an end, unexpectedly, in 1635/1636 when her party was captured by Elw partisans in the employ of the ESB-Jörmungandr Group. During this period of captivity the son, acknowledged as Daniyal ibn Daniyal, was born.

Childhood and education

Early career

In early 1659, after months of torturous negotiations, Isabella was able to broker an alliance with her former enemy Azardokht al-Osman as well as her rival the Imperial Mother, Liv Dravot to bring the competing interests of the House of Osman, the ESB Group, SATCo, and the Nationalist and Humanist Party into alignment at a special "Convocation of the Khans" where the principals of the Osmanid and Simrani networks gathered at the Emira's pleasure palace of Arg-e Daniyal on the island of Mirioth. The gathering culminated with one of the largest marriage ceremonies in Shirerithian history, which cemented bonds between the two factions and also between the House of Osman and the families of senior officers in the Palatini Corps, whose loyalty was vital for the control of Shirekeep.

During this ceremony Daniyal ibn Daniyal Simrani-Kalirion wed Novichoka Vladimorvna, having selected her from a line up of the daughters, sisters, and neices of the family's clients and senior N&H party cadres.

Elwynnese Civil War

Following the collapse in relations between the Nationalist-Humanist and Ayreonist-Reformist factions of the Imperial Republic in the wake of the Livian Pogroms, it became apparent that reformists, feigning indignation at the treatment of Froyalaners and Jing PoWs, were attempting a concerted push back against the N&H deep state which had presided over the expansion of Shireroth's territorial and military dominion over the Benacian continent. The trigger for the civil war in Elwynn was the decision of the President of Elwynn's Senate to strip the Imperial Mother of her seat without debate and without a vote. The response was predictably blunt, to the point, and destructive. Pro N&H factions in the Imperial Forces contributed to a combined cyber attack and air strike against the Elwynnese Senate, destroying the Senate Building and erasing the data of government servers, corrupting the BDN nodes of Northern Benacia in the process, crippling the network.

A not insignificant number of Imperial officers, disdaining to continue to serve under the anti-Livian steward Mira Octavius-Aryani, deserted their posts in the Palatini Corps and Shirekeep Garrison and passed into southern Elwynn where a rebel movement, rallying around the Southern League, quickly gained momentum amongst the Babkhi population - which rejoiced at the opportunity of being able to menace and plunder Eliria and Shirekeep simultaneously. As a prominent defecting Imperial officer, a legate of the Palatini Corps no less, connected by ties of blood to Elwynn and to the political nexus created by the Convocation of the Khans, it was natural that Daniyal attained a prominent position of leadership in the rebel movement, to the dismay of his mother, who at that time sought to limit the exposure of the network she had created to the consequences of Liv's latest impetuous act. Nonetheless, Daniyal, sensing that an opportunity to seize his birthright was finally at hand, put his name to the Manifesto of the Southern League[1] which was issued by proclamation at Araxion on 02.VII.1660.

Unfortunately for the Southern League however, which appeared poised to pounce upon the thoroughly unprepared Ayreonist clique in Eliria, the Steward seized the opportunity to take personal control of the Ministry of Military Affairs, dispatching an army of occupation into Elwynn as part of operation Fall Sart-Alarik. In spite of a lack of Imperialist enthusiasm for engaging their ideological fellow travellers and former comrades in arms at the behest of a Kezanite, the mere presence of the newly constituted Northern Banner Group obliged the Army of the Southern League to curb its offensive actions and to focus upon maintaining itself as a force in being, maintaining its influence in "liberated" areas through guerrilla actions and needling the Ayreonist occupied counties through acts of terror and assassination. As such the civil war was, in comparison to the earlier Civil War in Goldshire, a comparatively bloodless affair.

Events in Malarboria were however shortly to provide the Army of the Southern League an outlet for any frustration that might have accumulated, as well as offering for Daniyal the title he had aspired to ever since attaining adulthood.

Liberation of Modan

At an extraordinary general meeting of the ESB Group on 24.XIV.1662 in Modan Hamlet, Daniyal ibn Daniyal Simrani-Kalirion is elected Chairman.

1666–1668: Administration of the Empire

1666: Deputy Steward, Minister for the Interior and Defence, Imperial Minister for Modan, Ambassador to the Batavian Government at Kingsworth

1668–1684: The White Plague & a medical curiosity

Modanese Migration beginning 1667. Asylum, residence, and citizenship in the Principality of Molivadia of the Imperial State of Constancia effective 21.IV.1668, alongside sinecure appointment to the advisory Council of Molivadia until 17.XII.1676. Raised to the dubious (but well-compensated) position of Chairman Emeritus of the ESB Group on 1.V.1668. Instrumental in the development and later incorporation of ESB Remediation.

1685: Recovery & retirement

Since the application of an effective, albeit invasive, gene editing therapy flushed out the last traces of the fungal infection from his body, in addition to reversing some of the more extreme damage to the DNA/RNA sequences of his genome, Prince Daniyal was finally judged safe to return to the community he had departed so long before. However the world had moved on during the time in which the Prince had played host to the unspeakable corruption of the White Plague. Neither Drak-Modan, nor Elwynn, nor even the UGB expressed even the slightest interest in facilitating his return from Eura. Indeed Sanama and Shireroth went further and alleged that the Prince had certain serious allegations to answer pertaining to his tenure as suzerain over southern Benacia.

Constancia, so long the scene of his confinement and subsequent "treatments", had no desire to retain the Prince as a free citizen, especially not one who might prove inclined to ask what exactly they had been doing with his body during the whole period when it was held in their charge. So the question of where to place the unwanted exile came to the fore. By virtue of his late mother's Natopian citizenship, the answer was found. In the forgotten, dismal, and icebound demesne of the Two Martyrs it was discerned that the Prince had inherited the lordship of Szandoh.

To this land, on the southern tip of the continent of Cibola, was the Prince thence hastily dispatched, grasping in his clawed hands the fire-damaged title deeds of the Lordship as well as a folio of sequential bearer-bonds, the latter forming the basis of a very generous pension provided by the Honourable Company.

In spite of being a cantankerous old man, whose face had been rendered hideous to behold having been ravaged by the devouring hunger of those now vanished fungal spores, he took to his new lordship - finding the motley collection of whalers and inland herdsmen and their bucolic barbarity much to his humour. Indeed he went out of his way to sponsor the revival of folk customs, vibrant and bloody, that allowed his subjects to live the vigorous life of which he was no longer capable. Trapped in a broken body, he remained a passionate man, prone to statements of extreme sentiment, through which his presence at the 1685 Two Martyrs constitutional convention became widely known, especially as the convention dragged on into 1686 and then 1687. The feud upon which he subsequently embarked against the Mountbatten family took many observers by surprise, particularly as it was over so trifling a matter as the proposal of a new flag for the demesne. However those who took a closer interest may not have been so taken aback, considering that the Prince may well have been searching for a diversion, having perhaps grown a trifle bored of encouraging the more comely of his tenants' sons and daughters to engage in public fertility rituals. Indeed his enthusiastic proposal for the harrying of certain Vanakarlr inhabited estates during the Sublime Yeet of 1685 had indicated a certain restlessness.

Between 1687 and 1689 the Lord of Szandoh willingly submitted to a series medical procedures based around a controversial facial reconstruction method where the Lord's ravaged face was rebuilt using facial musculature recovered from donors extracted by operatives of the Honourable Company from the lawless regions of Helderbourgh Stadt and recovered to Szandoh via Chur. The Lord enjoyed the good fortune of being the inaugural patient to be worked upon by the specialist bio-regeneration team assembled at the Kalirion Hosptial under his Lordship's patronage.
