Dämez Äqiĵ, commonly known solely as Dämez, is a Craitish former-footballer who last played for Cherry Trees FC, with whom he spent his entire professional career. A goalkeeper by trade, Dämez has since moved into coaching that position since retiring from playing.

Career

Club

Dämez signed for Cherry Trees FC at the age of 24 ahead of the inaugural CrFA League 1 season, taking the club's number 1 jersey and becoming the first-choice goalkeeper. Dämez was an ever-present as the team won back-to-back titles that season and the following year, with his collective 14 clean sheets a major factor in their success. Although the subsequent two seasons saw Cherry Trees fail to win the league, Dämez conceded the least of any 'keeper in the division in 2006. During this time, however, the club won successive King's Cup finals in 2005, where Dämez kept a clean sheet, and 2006.

While Cherry Trees regained their league title in the 2007 season, again with Dämez and his defence conceding the fewest goals, 2008 saw the addition of Tellian stopper Roberto Flavienchini on a free transfer. Dämez and Flavienchini shared goalkeeping responsibilities throughout the double-winning season, with a third cup title being added to their fourth league triumph, before Flavienchini became the side's clear first choice from 2009 onward. Although playing a back-seat role for his last three seasons, Dämez gained a fifth league winner's medal in 2011 before announcing his retirement in the summer of that year, aged 33.

International

Dämez received a call-up for Craitland's first ever squad to compete in the inaugural FMF World Cup in 2006. Despite being expected to be used as a reserve behind Jack Vorgensen, Dämez started the team's opening match; a 2–1 win over New-Empire. Although Vorgensen was chosen to start for the two subsequent matches, Dämez returned to action following Vorgensen's sending-off against New Brittania in a 4–0 loss in the final group game before playing, and keeping a clean sheet in, the quarter-final, which the team lost on penalties. Dämez was included in the squad for the following year's World Cup, but was a spectator throughout as the team won its first world title. While Dämez remained eligible for international call-ups prior to his retirement in 2011, he was not involved in any further tournament squads, and won the last of his four caps in a friendly against Shireroth in early 2007.

Coaching

Since his retirement from the playing side of the sport, Dämez has used his expertise as a goalkeeping coach; a position he has held at Victoria's Buthminster Athletic, the CÓNECT academy in Craitland, and even at his former club Cherry Trees.
