Capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, is a practice which is intended to kill a person as punishment for crimes they have committed, otherwise known as an execution. It is mostly carried out for the most egregious offenses such as murder and treason, though laws vary by country historically. Common methods include death by firing squad, lethal injection, stoning, and the electric chair. In the modern world, while capital punishment remains more commonplace and accepted than in other co-resonant realms, some national governments now view these practices as inhumane, and not entirely insignificant number of nations have gone so far as to severely limited the extent of the death penalty or outlawed it altogether.

Summary of legality by nation

Caradia Caradia Legal 23,815 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes In Caradia, the death penalty is lawful to give for any crime, though it is rarely done so. Most judicial punishments involve being sent for forced labour in Caradian iron and coal mines, and death is seen as an inefficient allocation of labour. Some criminals, however, are considered too dangerous to continue living in Caradian society, and these individuals are usually executed.
Cira Cira Legal 93 No Yes No No No No No No The confederacy does not execute individuals unless they have been convicted of the highest crimes in the nation, namely high treason (murder of the Speaker or Suzerain) or human trafficking. The confederacy has only exercised its right to execute an individual when a human trafficking ring was busted in 1638, all of the members of which were executed afterwards. The confederacy also allows prisoners sentenced to life in prison the option of execution.

Francia Francia legal unknown Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes No No No All death sentences are set by a judge. After the verdict, the case will be reviewed by an independent committee to detect any legal error. If this commission has not discovered any errors, the emperor signs the death sentence. Until that time, the convicted person had the opportunity to ask the emperor for pardon.
Jingdao Jingdao Legal 3,251,329 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes All breaches of codified law or the Will of the Heavenly Light are punishable with the death penalty. It is performed when a criminal is considered to be more trouble alive than dead, regardless of the gravity of his crime. Mentally disabled people are only executed when they are found to be guilty of especially grave crimes such as murder or rape and are exempt from being punished for insulting the Heavenly Light which is usually only a capital offense.
Kalgachia Kalgachia Legal classified Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Kalgachi legal proceedings are based more on precedent, official discretion and parochial variation than on adherence to rigid codes, thus the conditions for a death sentence vary widely by case and jurisdiction. Criminal proceedings for a given offence traditionally serve as a pretext for a wider assessment of the offender's character and societal harm; first-time offenders with good references are therefore shown leniency whilst persistent recidivists can (and do) receive the death penalty for the smallest of infractions if it completes a picture of their unreformable character.
Krasnocoria Krasnocoria Legal 2,144 Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes No No No The death penalty is practiced regularly in Krasnocoria, and is given for a variety of crimes. Public support for the death penalty has consistently hovered between 70 and 90 percent for the past several decades.

Although no executions have taken place as of 1677, a total of 7 people have been sentenced to death and are awaiting execution on death row.

Senya Senya Legal 6 Possible Possible No Possible Possible Possible No Possible Whilst Senyan law has provisions for the death penalty, it is rarely used. No crime is directly punishable by the death penalty, though serious crimes (such as terrorism, murder, rape, child sexual abuse and crimes against the society) can warrant the death penalty under the following conditions;
  • The prisoner requests execution
  • The prisoner has completed 21 years in prison but has shown no remorse or behavioural improvement and is seen as being a risk to the public if released
  • The prisoner has re-offended

Interestingly, Senya does not have life imprisonment, the maximum sentence is 21 years. Before a prisoner can be executed, there can be no serious doubts that the prisoner is actually not guilty.

Shireroth Shireroth Legal Unknown Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes In Shirerithian law, any crime can be punished by the death penalty if a court finds it the most suitable option based on precedence. In practice, the death penalty is only used when all other methods (such as house arrest, incarceration, reeducation, indentured servitude, voluntary organ donation, voluntary euthanasia) have failed or are unavailable. Most persons who are subjected to the death penalty are indentured servants who have committed violent crimes where the death penalty is considered a proportional response by the court.

Methods of capital punishment by nation

For those nations in which capital punishment is legal, a variety of methods are practiced. The following is a summary table of the practices which those nations use.

Nation Lethal injection Gas inhalation or asphyxiation Firing squad Electric chair Hanging Stoning Beheading Other Notes
Caradia Caradia No No No No Yes Yes Yes Yes Execution methods vary in Caradia, though the most common method is drowning at sea. Criminals who are especially hated by the public are sometimes stood on a platform in a city and allowed to be stoned by the civilians of the city. Beheadings and hangings are only used when the judge wishes to make an example of the criminal, since when either of these options are chosen, the criminals body or head is displayed wherever it is most effective, usually at penal mines, in order to remind the prisoners that it could be worse. Other methods of execution are deemed too expensive to use.
Cira Cira Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes No Yes Yes Prisoners sentenced to death in the confederacy are allowed to choose an execution method, subject to the approval of the prison warden, though some execution methods deemed too cruel, such as stoning, are not allowed as an option. Lethal injection is the default execution method if the prisoner declines to make a request.
Florian Republic Florian Republic Yes Yes Yes No Yes No No No
Francia Francia Yes No Yes Yes Yes No No No The execution method is determined by the judgment. Espionage is punished with execution by a firing squad.
Jingdao Jingdao Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Executioners in Jingdao are fully licensed medical professionals who are valued for their creativity. While all normal methods are used, executioners who consistently stick with them are seen as underachievers. Executions usually take place within hours after the sentence, if not directly afterwards.
Kalgachia Kalgachia No No Yes No Yes No No No Ketherist teachings hold that the celestial forces of evil obtain equal power from all human suffering (the nectar of the archons) whether it be of their agents or adversaries. To deny them this sustenance, execution methods are required to be swift and efficient; long-drop hanging is preferred although firearms are used in more summary proceedings.
Krasnocoria Krasnocoria No No Yes Yes Yes No Yes No Inmates on death row usually have the right to choose from a selection of execution procedures. Executions are usually carried out within 48 hours of sentencing.
Los Liberados Los Liberados No No Yes No No No Yes No The designated execution method in Los Liberados is beheading, using the guillotine. Beheading is regarded as the fastest and most secure method of execution. Offenders who are sentenced for crimes against the Liberadosan nation may opt for a final appeal to a military tribunal, in which case executions are conducted by a firing squad.
Palesmenia Palesmenia Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes No No No Execution method selected based on severity of offense. Gas executions use a special nerve gas, known as Zúkér 31, developed during The Lákarpa War to flush out enemy positions. A surplus of this gas after the war has caused it's implementation in capital punishment.
Sanama Sanama No No Yes No No No No No When the military junta took power they suspended the federal constitution and laws, bringing Sanama back to the laws that applied before independence. While there is no ban against other forms of execution in Shirerithian law, as a matter of expediency, executions in Sanama are carried out by firing squad.
Senya Senya No No Yes No No No No No Firing squad of five police firearms specialists.
Shireroth Shireroth Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes There is no regulation as to the method, it is based on the court or legal authority in charge of sentencing. For example, Kaiseress Noor sentenced her son Adam to death by burning (for murdering two of his brothers) (though this particular sentence was not executed). Kaiseress Isa IV Cassandrae sentenced Aasmund Vigeland to death by shot to the head (for recalcitrant communism).
Unified Governorates Unified Governorates No No Yes No No No No Yes In the majority of cases, while the death penalty remains on the statutes for a wide variety of offences - courtesy of the inheritance of Imperial Law, convictions that would otherwise have merited the ultimate sentence are instead commuted to a prolonged tour of duty with the Biological Remediation Service, although this may be said to constitute little more than an outsourcing of the execution to Benacia's own gene-spliced apex predator. Executions, when they do occur, are mostly for political offences such as treason, espionage, sedition, or the propagation of forbidden doctrines, to name the foremost examples, or in cases of mutiny or desertion amongst the Black Legions. Whilst serving personnel of the legions and their auxiliary forces may request a dignified death in the form of a firing squad drawn from amongst their peers, for the average condemned criminal whose death has been sanctioned by the Command Executive the method proscribed is altogether more demeaning. The condemned is obliged to fast for three days prior to the appointed date, upon which he is taken from his cell and strapped to a gurney, after which he is removed to an operating theatre in the prison medical facility and placed under heavy sedation. It is at this point that death is typically caused by exsanguination, so as to facilitate organ and tissue harvesting for the medical services, although this methodology may vary if the condemned has been reserved for an anatomist's class.
