Location Breda
Theme Annexation of the Netherlands by Flanders
Cause Political instability in the Netherlands

The Breda Crisis was a conflict between the Republic of Flanders and the Republic of the Netherlands. On July 22, 2009 Flemish President Hieronymus Erasmus issued a declaration that Flanders would annex the Netherlands. The name of the crisis is derived from the city Breda in the real-life Netherlands where a meeting of Dutch language micronationalists had taken place. Here, Erasmus came up with the idea to annex the Netherlands. The Netherlands' government responded by rejecting the proposal and the incident soured the relations between Flanders and the Netherlands.

Letter of annexation, translated from the original Dutch

Esteemed president,

For a long time Flanders has been worried about the situation in the Republic of the Netherlands. Since the rise of Nihill Romez are the legislation and wiki neglected. Flanders feels enough is enough now the presidential election has become a disaster. The Treaty of Friendship speaks about a tight cooperation between our nations and we feel it gives us an obligation to act, and we will take over control of the Netherlands.

We want the annexation to be performed as smoothly as possible, and we will allow you some time to get things in order. If you report at the [Flemish] Ivory Tower at the Department of Internal Affairs, you will receive further instructions. Until that time you are not allowed to adopt new legislation or form new policy. We stress that you should not see this annexation as hostile, it is only intended to be a humanitarian act.
