The Benacian sovereign is the paramount official currency of the Benacian Union. Based upon a gold-standard, which is comprised of marks and chits in various denominations, whose sole coin - the eponymous Sovereign was originally an overstrike of those Kalgarrands received in yearly tribute from Kalgachia following the Treaty of Gloomburg which terminated the Inner Benacian Conflict.

While the paper promissory notes are in general circulation and the Sovereign (12 marks or 240 chits) is given as unit of exchange in everyday transactions, the coin itself is strictly reserved to the Command Executive to the extent that the only occasion that a subject of the Union-State can reasonably expect to be in receipt of a gold Benacian sovereign is on the occasion of his commissioning into the Benacian Union Defence Force.

Since 1724 AN, issues of the sovereign have been created using castings to the kalgarrand's physical dimensions and purity requirements; with an authorised design that features the Benacian Beast imagined as a Mishalanese bear on the obverse and the raptor of the Raspur Pact, with wings outstretched, on the reverse.

Dimensions

The Benacian sovereign is a coin of 99.9% fine gold at a weight of 31.1 grams (1 troy ounce), 2mm thickness and a very small diameter of 18.08mm.
