Batavië, officially the Kingdom of Batavia or in native language Koninkrijk Batavië is a quite large Constitutional Monarchy and one of the oldest Dutch Micronations around. Batavië has a large and extended culture.

History

Please note: This is a babelfishy like translation and /will/ be fixed!

Free Batavian States

The free Batavian states (vrije Bataafse staten) were the preamble of the kingdom Batavië and was some micronationalisten not even considered a micronation. If the Free Batavian States were taken into account Batavië would be the second oldest micronation in the Dutch sector. The Free Batavian States where an absolute monarchy, there wasn't a government but instead the country was ruled via decreets from the Regent or Queen. There was National Gathering but it didn't have real power. Jodocus van Haltna, or in this time called "Vader des Vaderland" was founder and Regent of the Free Batavian States. The states had a little bit of autonomy but the final word always lied with the Queen or Regent. The First Queen of the Free Batavian States was called Faya I, and according to the legend she really listened to the people. [1]

First Kingdom of Batavië

The First Kingdom of Batavië was a constitutional monarchy and devided into "Gewesten". After the death of the Free Batavian States with great help from the Prime Minister Jonas Windsor the First Kingdom of Batavië was declared with a totally new political system. The old nobility came seated in the Edelenregering (Governement of Nobles), until the Parliament was chosen (the nobles had a lot of power, what leds to a lot of disorder), while the people could be elected into the Parliament. The governing body existed out of the Government, supported by the Parliament and the King. It took a while before the Parliament (in that time with one chamber) was installed and people started to question this nation. Risings where put down hard but the criticy remained.

After these difficult weeks, even more difficulties arose. Brabantia (another Dutch micronation) and Batavië started arguiing and some civillians tried to seperate a "Gewest" from the mainland. This was all settled but the bigest problem was yet to come. When the people found out that Jodocus van Haltna (the Regent) found a way to read their passwords and used it to spy on them (statesecurity!) The dogs where loose. Der Fliegende Hollander, the Prime Minister disolved the Government and left Batavië and also Jonas Windsor, a prominent member of Batavian society left. Activity dropped and the admin (Regent van Haltna) refused to swithc fora or allow state reforms without his aproval and all remaining left. This last crisis even got it's own name: The van Haltna Crisis. [2]

Davignonrepubliek

After the van Haltna Crisis, several former citizens from Davignon (a city in Batavië and capital of the Province of Dietsland) called out the Davignonrepubliek. (This wasn't the official name) Jonas Windsor tried here to form a new Batavië and new constitution and ruled by Ministerial Decreets. [3]

Second Kingdom of Batavia

The new constitution was formed on 28th of december 2006. The second big step was the reinorgial of the King, named Arkadius II and was on the 4th of January 2007. This day is now a national recognized day. Immideatly after these things the parlement was installed, there was now a clear line between Lagerhuis and Hogerhuis. In the Hogerhuis the old nobolity seated and their job was to control and advise the Lagerhuis and serve as Jury in absense of a Judge. The Lagerhuis was the parliament and everyone could be elected into it. The Lagerhuis has 50 seats, devided on a "More Vote's, More Seats" principle. This would remain this way until the constituional changes of july 2007.

During the second election just two would participate, Jonas Windsor and Charles de Broqueville, with the only real difference that Charles wanted more power for the nobility. The results where 31 seats for Jonas and 19 seats for Charles. [4]

Government

Map of mainland Batavia. The Gau's became Gewesten / Provinces.
  • Currently for all information regarding the Government I point you to the Dutch wiki: [6]

The nation is divided in departments, a name used to refer to the several kinds of subdivision (since the July 2009 Reforms, therefore the nation only knew Gewesten / Provinces).

The current sorts of departments are:

  • Gewest (Province): Has a council and governor. A citizen has the opportunity to buy a Gewest to live there and develop it as he wants.
  • Domein (Domain)
    • Militair Domein (Military Domain): Ruled by a military representative.
    • Koninklijk Domein (Royal Domain): Ruled by the king of one of his family members.
