Amaland is a district of Hurmu located on the west coast of Keltia, immediately south of Tanah Tōnán'hyôrï and north of Rousilion. Population 2,178,892 (1707 AN). Capital is Hafnagaarð.

It was annexed to Hurmu in 1707 following an appeal by the Confederation of Communes of Amager, Havnegaard and the Caputian Communities (CCAHCC) to be annexed to Hurmu, with the Confederation facing an existential threat with several sovereign powers in recent years making sovereign claims along the western Keltian coast.

The district's government is a carbon copy of the Confederation's former government, but with oversight from the Hurmu government in ensuring the peaceful transfer of Hurmu sovereignty onto the area, and the application of just laws and the implementation of federal statutes. The former communes of the CCAHCC have become each a municipality.

About half of the population of the district speak Amalandic as a native language (a dialect of Humlebækish) and the rest of the population speak, as a native language, in order of size, Istvanistani, Alexandrian, and Karnali.

History

Traces its history to Havnesgade-Amager.

In spite of only being notionally established in the year 1707 AN, the native polities which had petitioned for the protection of Hurmu were surprised to receive not a garrison or civil administrators but instead they were at once swarmed by the agents of various political parties seeking to establish "the facts in the ground" as, by some reason or another, the new colonial territories were being treated as fully integrated districts from the moment of their establishment on paper - as such here was a rich prize of unorganised voters up for grabs.

Through a series of riotous hustings, organised and overseen by warring bands of political agents and their locally hired cadres of activists, a district wide tumult, subsequently reported as an election, occurred, and the results counted towards the 1707 Hurmu general elections.

On 14.XI.1707 AN a party of 41 master gunners and 178 gunner assistants in the employ of the Honourable Company were put ashore from a chartered merchant vessel to raise the flag of Hurmu upon the shore of the claimed territory and to receive the submission of the petitioners who had offered their fealty to the Order of the Holy Lakes in the preceding year. At their head was a certain Sarhang Rakesh Farhangi, a gentleman who enjoyed the rank of Resident in the hierarchy of the Honourable Company's Keltian directorate. The good Sarhang, bearing letters from his director was commanded, upon receiving the natives, to engage their services for the construction of an artillery fort and residency at a suitable location. Until that time, his instructions directed him to secure the site of his landing by means of a stockade enrounded by a palisade and such entrenchments and earthen ramparts as he might be able to effect.

At the conclusion of the elections, Ardashir Kalir (Isorion Isor), CDH first alternative for the Senate of the Lakes was sent out to Amaland to serve as commissioner. As this appointment was to be his first experience of executive authority, he was accompanied by a retinue of eight companions who were well seasoned by service in Apollonian Hurmu.

Early in the history of Hurmudan administration the communes were periodically seized by panics that Oswin Fasthey, the deposed leader of the Dark Berry Islands, had found shelter within their midsts. But while the hue and cry had been raised on numerous occasions, no likely suspect was ever brought before the local magistrates.

Garrison & security

A defence service agreement awarded by the Hurmu Peace Corps on 1.XIII.1707 AN provided for the United Free Company, a band of Benacian freebooters operating in western Keltia, to provide a garrison supplementary to the small force of artillerymen put ashore by the Honourable Company. The services of the mercenaries would be retained for an initial period running from 1707 to 1712 AN.
