The Aldurian Navy is the naval branch of the Aldurian Armed Forces. Following the founding of Alduria in 1669 AN, the ships and resources of the separate settler and commercial navies were integrated into a national green-water navy.

The Aldurian Navy continues to provide green-water defense capability for Alduria. Due to the rapid wartime expansion started after the beginning of the West Baatharzi War, the Navy’s capabilities are expanding as it has seen the acquisition of large surface vessels, submarines, an underwater acoustic positioning system, and the building of many smaller warships. After the terrorist attack on Corrada del Rio that sparked the West Baatharzi War, the Aldurian Parliament passed the National Defense Authorization Act, 1674 (also known as the NDAA 1674). NDAA 1674 spent a total of A€ 50 billion in an effort "to strengthen the naval forces of the Republic of Alduria". Half of the funds were appropriated to the construction of naval vessels such as cruisers, frigates, and other ships deemed by the Secretary of Defense to be essential. This legislation also includes an additional A€ 20 billion for the Aldurian Marines.

In 1679, the Aldurian Navy unveiled two Caputia-class helicopter cruisers, laid down in 1675 in the wake of maritime policing operations which had brought home to the Aldurian admiralty the necessity for extending the range of its naval aviation assets.

The navy aspires to be one of the largest and most sophisticated naval forces in the Euran continent, with a significant presence in the Dyre Straits and parts of the North Raynor Sea, and to this end seeks to leverage the technical and maritime engineering prowess inherited from the Alexandrian and Caputian diasporas to build up a first-rate indigenous shipbuilding industry.

History

Command Structure

The Aldurian Navy is commanded through the Admiralty in Punta Santiago. The professional head is the Chief of Navy (CN), who holds the rank of vice admiral. The Admiralty is responsible for implementing policy decisions handed down from the Department of Defense and for overseeing tactical and operational issues that are the purview of the subordinate commands.

Beneath the Admiralty Naval Headquarters are two subordinate commands:

  • Fleet Command: fleet command is led by the Commander Aldurian Fleet (COMALDFLT). The nominated at-sea commander is Commodore Warfare (COMWAR), a one-star deployable task group commander. Fleet command has a responsibility to CN for the full command of assigned assets, and to Joint Operations command for the provision of operationally ready forces.
  • Navy Strategic Command: the administrative element overseeing training, engineering, and logistical support needs. The Systems Commander is appointed to the rank of rear admiral.

Fleet Command is made up of four Force Commands:

  • Naval Air, responsible for the navy's aviation assets;
  • Mine Warfare, Clearance Diving, Hydrographic, Meteorological and Patrol Forces, an amalgamation of the previous Patrol Boat, Hydrographic, and Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Forces, operating what are collectively termed the "minor war vessels";
  • Submarine Force, (Aldurian Submarine Service) operating submarines;
  • Naval Action Force, covering the surface combatants (generally ships of frigate size or larger);
  • Aldurian Marines.

Fleet

As of XIV.1679 AN, the fleet consisted of 63 warships, including helicopter-cruisers, corvettes, submarines, missile attack craft, and auxiliary cruisers. Ships commissioned into the Aldurian Navy are given the prefix ANS, for "Aldurian Naval Ship".

The Aldurian Navy has five primary bases for its fleet:

  • Punta Santiago Fleet Base, located in the Aldurian capital;
  • Fontainebleau Fleet Base, located in Fontainebleau, Napoleon;
  • Nueva Geneva Fleet Base, located in Nueva Geneva, Compostela;
  • Fleet Base East, located in Rothborne, Rothborne;
  • Riverine Fleet Base, located in Corrada del Rio, Mondego.

In addition, three other naval bases are home to minor war vessels and to a government-owned shipyard:

  • Allegiance Station, located in Valladares, Valladares;
  • Vendetta Naval Citadel and Shipyards, located in Santa Paula, Murcia;
  • Norvind Fleet Base, located in Norvind, Altus.

Integrated Undersea Surveillance System

The Integrated Undersea Surveillance System (IUSS) is a chain of underwater listening posts located around Alduria's territorial waters. It was later supplemented by mobile assets that could be deployed by the Aldurian Navy. These listening posts are fixed, mobile, and/or deployable acoustic arrays that provide vital information about submarines both nuclear and diesel. The program has emphasizes a smaller force that is effective against modern diesel and nuclear submarines in regional/littoral or broad ocean areas of interest. Work stations, enhanced signal processing, and modern communication technologies enable remote array monitoring.
