League business

Collective Bargaining Agreement

The league's inaugural collective bargaining agreement enters its first season. Franchises will not have an option to end the agreement this season but from 2021, Franchises will have the option to opt-out from the agreement until the CBA expires before the 2025–26 Intercontinental Hockey League season.

Salary Cap

The inaugural salary cap is set at $81.5 million for each franchisee with the salary floor set at $58.8 million.

Rule changes

The Intercontinental Hockey League will have different rules set out by the MEHL and MHL. The differences are as follows:

  • Smaller rinks measuring at 60.96m by 25.91m.
  • 10 minute overtime of 3-on-3 in the regular season.
  • Implementation of a Goaltender trapezoid behind the net. Goaltenders will be not permitted to handle the puck outside the trapezoid behind the goal line. For Micras' Champions Hockey League matches, ICHL franchises are required to temporarily remove the trapezoid before matchday.
  • Up to three timeout breaks each period.
  • In the postseason, they will be consecutive 20 minute periods of 5-on-5 overtime until a goal is scored.

Media rights

This will be the first season under the ICHL's ten year deal with Red Sports and Sports World. It has also been confirmed that Otaq Aliens playoff matches should they reach that stage of the competition would be broadcast on Birgesh national free to air television and regular-season matches would be covered by radio.

Draft

The first ICHL Entry Draft was held in Victoria City, with Keiron Burke selected first overall by the Victoria Predators.
