For the 2016–17 season the SuperCup and relegation group format was dropped in preparation for the straight series that would be implemented from the 2017–18 season and forward. Teams instead played each other five times, with the fifth round being drawn after the first four had finished. The top four teams after four rounds got four home games and three away games in the fifth round, with the bottom four teams getting three home games and four away games.
