1679 Nordisketing election

The 1679 Nordisketing election was held across Normark, 12.IV.1679. It was the first Normark election since Normark's accession to the Elwynnese Republic. With the constitutional order of Normark settled in the 1678 Normark status referendum, issues at stake at the election were largely to do with internal Norse matters, but also with the future direction of the Elwynnese Republic. As such, the Second Amokolian War and the Lakhesis Incident both took prominence. In the end, the government parties (AIP-NRPN&HRHABB) lost its fragile majority in the Nordisketing, Normark's legislature.

Electoral method

In this election, each bailiwick formed one constituency. The number of seats per bailiwick was decided in proportion to that bailiwick's share of the total population. As such, Konungsheim Elieru (Elijah's Rest) elected 58 representatives, while seven bailiwicks elected 2 representatives each (Mjøs, Vidda, Skrubbebør, Drøndelag, Mellomhånd, Aderstein, and Høgmarken). All other bailiwicks existed in the range between 3 and 31 representatives.

Within each bailiwick, elections were proportional with a party-list system.

Aftermath and government formation

Aud Laaland, upon hearing the results of the election, understood that her government no longer enjoyed a majority in the Nordisketing, and subsequently handed in her resignation. She remained a caretaker primeminister until the new Nordisketing would meet, elect a new speaker and prime minister.

Sigrid Årud (ES) began coalition negotiations with the N&H, as the two parties would have a clear majority in the Assemly. However, leaked conversations from the negotiations have an N&H representative mentioning we'll want the quaint ethnics [i.e. the Reinherder Association] on board as well as a symbol of our commitment to the "real human spirit" of the nation. In the end, Årud acceded, despite her party's traditional misgivings with the RHA. The RHA were more than happy to be onboard. After a few days of negotiations, a government package was presented, and a division of important posts, as follows:

Speaker of the Nordisketing Ola Valtatsjakk RHA
Prime Minister Sigrid Årud ES
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Intra-Republican Affairs Dominik Andersen Myrbøl N&H
Minister of Finance Ingrid Vibble N&H
Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs Severin Scott N&H
Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Hunting Odd Djahkka RHA
Minister of Fisheries Sakarias Olsen ES
Minister of Civil Services Mårten Aderveg ES
Minister of Bailiwicks Klaus Mildergaard ES
Minister of Environment Stina Aleksandersen ES
Minister of Energy and Industry Bjørn Kasterup ES
Minister of Labour Peder Møller ES
Minister of Justice Valentina Rosenland N&H
Minister of Education Maria Castro ES
Minister of Health Valdemar Pilsner ES
Minister of Social Services Thorbjørn Dyrkslak N&H

Once meeting a few days later, the Nordisketing quickly ratified this with an overwhelming majority.
