The 1657 Yuan Elections were the first and last elections after the War of Lost Brothers. The Meiyo Emperor who had hoped to gather popular support for her post-war policies ended up losing face. The bad results of the Badao Party, combined with the establishment of several minor contradicting political parties, led to a government crisis. It eventually meant the downfall of the Empress and the rise of the child-emperor Chidao to the Heavenly Throne.
