Breuddwyd
The Kingdom of Breuddwyd was a micronation founded and ruled by self proclaimed mad king, Emyr Ciaron Broeck. It was active in 2005 and early 2006 before being dissolved by an act of law.
History
Foundation and Structure
Breuddwyd was founded on the April 24, 2005, as an absolute feudal monarchy. With the adoption of a Grand Charter and the establishment of a legislature, the system became more democratic.
Executive power was wielded by an elective monarch titled "King". Upon the death or abdication of a King, a new one is appointed by the Casglaid, Breuddwyd's legislature. The King has extensive executive powers. Legislative power was vested in the Casglaid, a body that consisted of all citizens not serving in the judiciary, serving a criminal sentence or who had not been a citizen for at least thirty days. Votes in the Casglaid were apportioned according to a weighted voting system, with citizens who participate more wielding more influence. Judicial Power was vested in the high court. Judges were appointed by the King, subject to approval by the Casglaid, for a term of sixty days.
Economy
Breuddwyd was notable for its unique monetary economy. The currency, the gwy, was backed in and exchangeable for Australian dollars at a rate of 100 gwy to the Australian dollar. (The personal assets of King Ciaron Broeck were staked as collateral for the assets of the state).
The currency was represented on the national (anyone with a login automatically had an account) and currency was distributed by the state on a post reward basis; one post earned a user one gwy.
Dissolution
Following a period of stagnation and inactivity, in the immediate wake of the Christmas-New Year holiday period, the Dissolution of State Act 2006 was enacted to bring the Kingdom to an end. The Act was signed into law on January 18, 2006, simultaneously dissolving the Casglaid and voiding all prior law and statutes of the Kingdom. King Ciaron also abdicated the throne by this Act.
Preservation
The website and forums of the defunct nation continue to be available as of late March 2006, containing additional reference material and the history of the Kingdom.
An intended legacy of the Dissolution of State Act was the protection of the name "Breuddwyd", as per Article 5 - The Kingdom of Breuddwyd in any form and under any name, may only be reconstituted with the express consent of all Breuddwydian citizens.
It is uncertain how this prohibition could or would be enforced, in view of the dissolution of all institutions of the former Kingdom and the voiding of all law; the latter, in particular, would seem to have the effect of removing the status of "citizenship" from any former citizen, thus there would be no person existing whose "consent" could be sought for reconstitution or reuse of the name. Nonetheless it could be construed that the last remaining citizens could be the citizens considered for this revival, which were Ciaron Broeck and Brian Capelle.
