Prinsessenvertaling

The Prinsessenvertaling is a translation of the Holy Scripture of the Nazarene religion that was commisionned by the synod of the Ludwiggian Reformed Church in Altstadt in 1733. The document was published in 1735. The translation was based on the Stedenvertaling that was completed in 1714, during the period of the Republic of the United Cities in the Lanzerwald. Goal of the translation was to clarify and correct parts of the Holy Scripture that seemed to advocate misogyny, homophobia, racism or genocide. The choices made for the Prinsessenvertaling were then also applied to a new version of the Stadtparlementübersetzung, which was published in 1736 and was basically the Cibolan-Saxon version, while the Prinsessenvertaling was the Cibolan-Diets version. Use of the Prinsessenvertaling of 1735 and the Stadtparlementübersetzung of 1736 was made mandatory by the general synod of the Ludwiggian Reformed Church in 1740, when it decreed that the use of the earlier mistranslations was a heretical act that would lead to expulsion from the church.
