Vulcania is the capital and largest city in Eternia. Situated on the central island in the inland Sea of Eternia, it has about 700,000 inhabitants as of 1720 AN within its confined metropolitan region, nearly 10% of the entire country's population. Since its recognition by the MCS c.1715 AN, Vulcania has become the primate city of the country, with a population density greater than any other metropolis within the country.

The island city is about 75 square kilometers in size, the smallest metropolitan-level district in the entire country. Vulcania is supported by a wide range of agricultural activities both within its borders and its environs. In recent years, the rapidly growing population has come to depend heavily on imports from the surrounding regions, supported by well-developed infrastructure for both passenger and freight transport to all parts of the city.

Eternia's central government bodies are increasingly housed within the confines of the city, and a planned capital district is planned to open sometime in the 1730's. The future district will occupy the heights near the still-active geothermal areas that provide both fresh water and power to the city, with the caldera itself (scarcely one percent of the city's total area) remaining off-limits to development to preserve cultural heritage. The King moved to the new Royal Palace facility in 1724 AN, with the parliament buildings set to open in 1725 AN.
