Bifrost
Bifrost is an island on the north of Micras.
Origins and Etymology
Bifrost, along with its sister isle Volsung is the only part of Micras directly based on the topography of a part of Earth. It is a small ice-covered island to the north of Greenland. Hyperborea originally used this island as its geography, and it was imported into Micras as part of the conditions for Hyperborea joining the Micronational Cartography Society. Bifrost was named after the mythical Norse rainbow bridge joining Heaven to Earth.
Geography
Bifrost has four small (usually frozen) rivers. In the center is Mount Yaanek, the sacred volcano of the Hyperboreans (9,999 ft). Other tall mountains include Pirumve, Dragumve, and Aramve. Bifrost is mostly under the polar ice-cap, although bits of the south are ice-free all year long. The strait between Bifrost and Volsung is usually covered in ice and rarely navigable.
History
Bifrost was controlled by the independent nation of Hyperborea until late 2001, when it was annexed to Shireroth. It was destroyed around winter 2001 in a volcanic eruption, but later reinstated to the map. Since then, it has been consistently Shirerithian. It was briefly the center of its own Duchy of Hyperborea and later Borea-Elwynn, but is now part of the Shirerithian Duchy of Elwynn.
