The mekhak is the currency of the United Cities of the Vales. Having been used as a common means of payment for hundreds of years, it was made the sole legal tender of Vales as late as 1717. Until then, each state had its own internal official currency. The mekhak is subdivided into 128 njollos. The Confederal Bank of Vales issues coins in denominations of 1, 4, 8, 32 and 64 njollos, 1, 2 and 5 mekhak, and banknotes of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 mekhak. The name "mekhak" derives from Sevan slang, while the word "njollos" is derived from a Verdhese word meaning a very small amount.
