The Ciudad de los Deportes sports complex, colloquially known as Jean Brown Sports City by its locals, is a large sports complex located in Cárdenas, the capital of Nouvelle Alexandrie. Commissioned by the administration of President Alejandro Campos as part of the New Prosperity Plan's large investment in public works and infrastructure projects.
Built over four years, from 1687 AN to 1691 AN, the sports complex was designed by a small New Alexandrian architectural design firm based in Punta Santiago, Frankel & Company. With the aim of building a "world-class sporting events city worthy of our capital", the Ciudad de los Deportes sports complex aims to drive year-round tourism, increase opportunities for public recreation, and create new opportunities for public and private development in Cárdenas.
The sports complex is owned and operated by a semi-public corporation called CárdEvents FCD. Ciudad de los Deportes is organized into three primary districts: the 34 km2 Jean Brown Sports Park, the 12 km2 Central District, and the 40 km2 Baldivia Lake Acquatic Sports Park. The plan integrates a variety of urban functions and activities, all served by a robust, multi-modal transportation system. The complex boasts connections to the Pan-Keltian Highway and to Cárdenas International Airport, via light rail, road, and bus. The Baldivia Lake loop road is also ideal for events such as marathons and bicycle circuits. When there are no ongoing sporting events, the complex continues operation by emphasizing the integration of sporting events alongside public recreation, fitness, and research activities and events. Concerts and other events are also regularly held in the off-season. The complex also includes the National Sports Museum, a prominent national non-profit sports museum in Nouvelle Alexandrie.
