A referendum was held in the Florian Republic in Template:AN Year, with voters asked whether the nation should adopt a new name. It was called by President Morgan Sharp following a bill being passed in the Florian Congress. The referendum was held in two parts, the first being a yes/no question as to whether a name change should occur, and the second being a choice of two name options.
Campaign
Both the UNPR and IDPFR formed the main campaign group in favour of a name change, stating that the current name was an unfortunate reminder of the nation's chequered past and that the recent policy of continuous, rapid expansion should signal a new era for the Florian people, with a name change being essential to building a successful future for the nation.
The Labour Party led the main opposition campaign, on the platform that the country should honour its history.
