1745 Sanaman general election
The 1745 Sanaman general election took place on 12.X.1745 and was the first election under the new constitution and the first following the new electoral law passed in 1743. The new electoral law in essence prescribes a one-vote system for all three national elections. Using a closed party-list system, voters put one ballot with the name and candidates of a party in the ballot box. That vote is counted for that party in the elections to the House of People's Delegates and the Council of People's Republics. The leader of the largest party in the winning coalition also automatically becomes president. The law was criticised by the opposition for limiting democracy, while the ruling coalition touted it as a simple and effective implementation of democracy.
