Heath Development Corporation, or HDC, is a state-owned land development corporation initiated by Orion II, Grand Duke of Lac Glacei, as a means of direct investment into developing the infrastructure of Heathersland and Eesdeheito. The company is the primary recipient of contracts for road construction, housing development, bridges, railways, and other improvements. Subsidiaries include the HDC Credit Union, a local lending institution, and HDC Construction, which focuses primarily on housing.
Amethyst Mining
With the expansion of Eesdeheito in 1696 to include much of the former territory and the northern heath belt, HDC established headquarters in Fiskbat and began exploratory drilling to expand its amethyst mining operations. Early samples, and smaller historic mines, indicated large veins of the semi-precious gem located directly below much of the northern bedrock, especially outside of Markbuurg and Fiskbat. HDC essentially holds a monopoly on the market, and began large-scale global exportation of amethyst in late 1697.
In an arrangement made with the local government, HDC has been privately contracted by the state corrections department which provides them with laborers for the mines as part of a penal labor plan where prisoners can work in exchange for time served to reduce their overall sentences. This injection of labor has helped propel HDC to the lead in global amethyst production and provided significant revenue for shareholders.
