Jardinais is a canton in southeastern Lac Glacei. Its capital is the city of Jardin. It is the smallest canton, geographically speaking, in Lac Glacei. The region was originally a rural agrarian outpost of Lac Glacei. As the agricultural economy began to stall, local farmers tried various means to either diversify their products or develop other income alternatives, such as farm-tourism. One such farmer, Jean Florent, a keen gardener, got the idea to begin growing cut flowers at his farm instead of vegetables. His idea was a huge success, and other farmers began copying Florent's model. Thus the region grew into a myriad of various cut-flower farms and even nursery-grown plants for retail. With this explosion of flowers painting the hillsides a palette of color, the area began to be called Jardinais. The city of Jardin grew up around Floret's original farm. Today Jardinais remains a top producer of cut flowers and ships worldwide, well-respected for their quality and beauty. With its diminutive size, the locals and administration have worked hard to maintain the rural character of the canton. Most of the land is preserved as agriculture through conservation easements that provide tax relief to farmers. Only the coastal strip along Lake Glacei has been allowed for dense development, with the remaining territory still used for flower farms.
