[[image:MayoFlag.png|left|170px|Mayoan Flag]]The Independent Region of Mayo (''Onafhankelijke Regio Mayo'') was one of the most successful Dutch micronations on Micras and is remembered for being a political hostpot during the 2004 Cold War which also included fellow Dutch micronations Charlotta and the Red Antilles. Prominent citizens of the nation included the founder, Joxin 'Charly' Diez, Dorian Anarkiazale and Thomas Heyndericx. Mayo was an unofficial part (province) of the Republic of Charlotta, founded by Joxin Diez on June 23, 2004. The region was mostly inhabitated by social democrats and liberals, whilst the two other Charlottan provinces (Flores and Landaluze) were dominated by the Communist Party of Charlotta. Tensions between those two ideological groups eventually culminated in a communist-led coup d'état on August 4, 2004, which resulted in the seccesion and independence of Mayo two days later. These events would long remain the source of enmity in the Dutch Sector, and would also have ramifications in the Anglophone Sector. [[Mayo|More...]]

It was one of the first conflicts to actively include the Non-Aligned Movement and its member nations as a military force and started a lengthy process of Riponia consolidating her power on the continent. Conflict finally broke out when terrorist incidents in Landingberg by a rebel movement were accused of being funded and backed by the neighbouring Holzer Empire, then known as Holzborg and Norona. Holzborg-Norona and Landingberg had by this time finished expanding into unclaimed land between their core territories and were both dissatisfied with their borders- it is believed that the excuse of terrorist activity was created to justify what was essentially a war over territorial disputes.
Both Landingberg and Holzborg were at this time nations comprising of a multitude of smaller statelets, making the map of the region notoriously difficult to decipher and creating a complex, already deeply divided political landscape in which hostilities began. [[War of the Broken Pottery|More...]]
