Seal of the Department of Communications.

The Department of Communications is the department that establishes and coordinates federal policy on telecommunications, the postal services, and the media. The Department also administers grants, government projects, and programs to help develop a native New Alexandrian communications and media industry that is "independent, creative, vibrant, and representative", in accordance to the National Media Charter of 1685, a major public-private covenant that was the source of intense debate in the first session of the Cortes Federales. The National Media Charter of 1685 is a landmark legal agreement defining the rights and duties of both the public and the private sectors in the proper regulation of media, fight against misinformation, and the maintenance of civil liberties.

The Department of Communications works closely with the Department of Interior and the Department of Defense on matters of common policy, especially the promotion and development of civil works and government projects for the improvement of the defense and protection of the nation's communications and informations systems.

The Department of Communications administers NANII, the New Alexandrian National Information Infrastructure.

The department is headed by a Secretary of Communications, who is appointed by the King on the advice of the President of the Government. The Secretary of Communications is a member of the Council of State.

The department was established in 1689 AN. The Department of Communications is headquartered at East Meadow Tower Building, in the Government Triangle neighborhood of Cárdenas, FCD.
