The ESB Clearinghouse is the only private sector operator of the Aldurian Electronic Payments Network (AEPN), the national automated clearing house for electronic funds transfers in Alduria. ESB Clearinghouse operates the network jointly and with backing of the Bank of Alduria. The network processes financial transactions for consumers, businesses, and national, state, and local governments. These credit transfers normally include direct deposit for payroll, government benefit payments, tax refunds, and vendor payments. These direct debit transfers include consumer payments on insurance premiums, mortgage loans, and other kinds of bills. In 1678, the network processed 1 billion transactions with a total value of 600 billion Aldurian ecu.
