Imperial Service
In 1649 AN, Horst Menning received an appointment as Draconary in the Artillery Corps of the Imperial Army. The Imperial Army was, at the time, continuing to rebuild and expand after the Year of the Four Kaisers. During the War of Lost Brothers, Horst Menning was deployed in the Dalmacijan Campaign, where he demonstrated a notable efficiency at neutralizing Jing human wave attacks.
By 1671 AN, Horst Menning had ascended to the rank of Legate, commanding the artillery division of VII Corps in the Riverine Army.
