The Oportian National Ballet (Alexandrian: Ballet National d'Oportie) is the premier classical ballet company in Oportia. Founded in 1715 AN under the patronage of Federal Representative Cesar Andre, the company is based at the National Theatre of Oportia in the capital city of Vanie.
History and Repertoire
Since its inception, the Oportian National Ballet has been at the forefront of the country's dance scene, preserving the classical ballet tradition while also promoting new works by Oportian choreographers. The company's repertoire includes classical and well-known ballets as well as Oportian works like the celebrated epic ballet "La Légende de Norodom."
"La Légende de Norodom," composed by Étienne Dubois with choreography by Marguerite Lefevre, premiered at the National Theatre in 1729 AN. It tells the story of the legendary hero Norodom who fought to save the Empire of the Alexandrians during the tragic Flu Pandemic of 1651 AN. The ballet has become a beloved classic and is performed annually by the Oportian National Ballet.
Dancers and Training
The Oportian National Ballet is known for its rigorous training program and the exceptional skill of its dancers. Many of the company's dancers are graduates of the prestigious Oportian National Ballet School, which was established in 1720 AN and is closely affiliated with the ballet company. The school follows a strict curriculum based on the Alexandrian ballet technique, which emphasizes grace, precision, and expressive artistry.
