Kolobreg (Germanian: Kolberg) is a town on the coast of the Austral Sea in northwestern Polonias, within the Wschodno Vojvodstvo. It is the capital of Kolobreg Gmina and the Wschodno Vojvodstwo, and has a population of 10,231.
The name
The name Kołobrzeg comes from the Old Polonian kolu brzegu (meaning "near the sea").
History
In the 17th century Kolobreg was a tribal stronghold located within the Tkara Cheifdom and later part of the Aureg Confederation until its dissolution in 1637. Łobez was first mentioned in a document from 1601, according to a local cheif named Korko. After the integration of native lands into Polonias, most of the land in the city was granted to the Chruch. By 1701 Kolobreg received town rights. A castle was built in 1703, which was later converted into the Chruch of the Sacred Heart
