Feanoria is a very large island chain/subcontinent in the far east of Micras.
Origins and Etymology
Feanoria was added to the map along with the rest of the Eastern Hemisphere by Series 3. It was named after Elentari Sirithil nos Feanor of Menelmacar, the most important country to occupy the territory. Sirithil's name itself derived from the name Feanor, the elf who forged the Silmarils in J.R.R. Tolkien's "Silmarillion".
Landscape
Feanoria consists of two big islands, North Feanoria and South Feanoria, and many associated smaller island chains. In the north is Terra Ceta, a medium-sized island called Balar by the Menelmacari. Further south is the Coprian area (once Gaer Edhilond), and then Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity Islands, collectively known as Terra Firma and once the easternmost outpost of the Treesian Empire. The southernmost chain is the Anterran Islands, notable now as the last residual territory of Lovely on Micras.
Feanoria is a volcanic island chain, and is split by a range of mountains - the island's highest peak is Mt. Oiolosse (3590 m). It is subject to frequent volcanic and seismic activity, and should be considered tectonically and climactically similar to Japan.
History
Feanoria was first occupied by Alteria on the now-lost Series Two of maps, and only ruined Alterian cities such as Dundee spotted the landscape until it was taken over by the Menelmacari in 2002. The Menelmacari period was a golden age for Feanoria. The Menelmacari capital, Caras Menelmacar, situated on the southernmost part of the north island by the Sirithil Straits, became the center of a great empire. After the Menelmacari Civil War, Feanoria was briefly split among the rival factions; the whole chain later became the Dutch Red Antilles. This was the last time all Feanoria was united under a single empire; the area is now a patchwork of Beaugian and Stormarkian claims, as well as the small Antican colony of New Brannum.
