Terminal 1 of NPIA (circa 2010)

New Pyrus International Airport (or NPIA for short) is the only international airport within the Kingdom of Genovia. The airport consists of two terminals with Terminal 1 being used as an international and domestic terminal consisting of twelve gates (plus a "Sky Tram" that connects the airport with the city of New Pyrus) and Terminal 2 that is used as the private terminal of the genovian government, with two hangers one holding the monarch/Prime Minister's private jets and another holding escort aircraft of the Genovian Airforce.

Construction

Construction of the New Pyrus International Airport began on the third of March 1987. Construction was completed in June of 1989 and the airport officially opened on the 1st of January 1990. The total cost of the project was estimated to have been around 6.8 Million Genoves (12.8 Million today).

Statistics

Since it's opening in 1990, NPIA has seen an average of 12,000 international travelers per year. This is in addition to the almost 30,000 domestic passengers and over 80,000 tons of cargo.

Airline Operations

At current, two airlines operate out of New Pyrus International Airport.

Military Occupation

Besides it's primary role as an international airport, NPIA also functions as a working military installation with a fully military fire department and two detachments of MiG-21 fighters. In addition, the airport is also home to the Prime Minister and the Monarch's two private 747SP aircraft and one A300.
